Black Lite Test I was wondering how that black lite test works to detect dog pee in a carpet. I have a new carpet that has already been peed on a couple of time and cleaned it up with spot shot, which I love, but I don't know that it gets the scent out so dogs can't detect it. So, I bought some stuff called Get Serious and wanted to use that...it's supposed to work wonders. The other night I had a birthday party here for my daughter and my sister's dog peed on the carpet. No one noticed it, and I was nervous about my husband seeing me clean it up, but he was busy visiting and didn't even notice me cleaning it until my dear mom said, "Connie...what are you doing there?" haha...leave it to mom...everyone's eyes turned to me with the can of spot shot and a rag in my hand. Anyway, last night I remembered a string of black lights my son had and they were still in the basement closet, so I brought them up and plugged it in and I cannot see any spots. What am I supposed to be looking for with the black lite? Is it supposed to be a different color? I sure couldn't find anything, so I'm thinking the spot shot cleaned it good enough to where I can't see anything. I'd like to use the Get Serious on those areas, but now I can't find them. Is it supposed to be dark when you use the black lite? I tried dark and also with lights on. Thanks for any advice! |
yup suppose to be dark; and you should see like spots. But if nothing's there; it's clean! :) |
With a black light you should be able to see spots! If you dont see them then they are gone! |
The balck light test does'nt always work sometimes you have to buy a spray to spray on the carpet first, Spot shot is not the best choice for puppy pee. I would buy a product made to get out pet odors and stains, I had stanley steamer clean my carpets and even though my Yorkie has never pottied in my house they left me with this cleaner that has a enzym, like a living organizism, safe to pets and humans that you pour on a pee pee spot and it gets rid of the odor, bacteria and stain. Its really cool, and it should come in handy as I am potty training my 2 yr old daughter LOL! |
Thanks all for your info! Brandy...I realize spot shot doesn't work well for the scent, so that's why I bought this stuff called "Get Serious." Sounds much the same as what you described. Trouble is now, I can't find the spots to use it on since I'd already cleaned them with spot shot. I know they're there, but where??? LOL |
LOL you sound like me with our other house while we were potty training... Its really a hard thing if you have a steam cleaner I would just do that and start over with this new cleaner any new accidents I would use that. Good Luck its a pain, but thats what we do for these guys. |
Connie, We tried this with a regular black light light bulb for a lamp and found maybe one or two very small areas that turned a very slight color. But then we borrowed our neighbors real strong blacklight....and oh boy....what we found was a HUGE mess.....and we had been using cleaners and steam cleaning the carpet all the time!! We ended up pulling up all the carpet in the living area and hall and installing laminate hardwood floors. Maybe your blacklight is not very strong if you think there should be spots?? Just a thought....maybe you are lucky and everything came up!!! Good luck!! |
If it is just a string of black lights that you are using, you do need a black light that is much stronger. With the lights turned off, under the black light, stains should appear bright yellow or green. GOOD LUCK! |
I used the black lite a while back, and it showed alot of stuff. Anything phosphorous can show up because I have alot of spots but they are not all yellow, it is scarey to use those things, so vomit alot of stuff besides pee will show up. I have used ProKlean with success it was the only stuff that would take the odor out. |
I bought one ot those lights from Dr. Foster and Smith. It works ok. I have security lights all over and so it never gets very dark but it picked up very old pee and vomit. I know my pups haven't gotten sick on my bed cause they haven't been allowed up there yet. It shows up kinda yellowy. |
