Why is a Yorkie your choice of dog? Hi there- I thought this would be an interesting question to ask- I apologise now if this has already come up. Yorkies are my favourite because they're what I grew up with- when my brother and I were little, our first Yorkie pup was so small, my dad brought her home in his pocket! And for the first 13 years of my life, she was part of our family and what I was familiar with. Another point is that I feel proud to have a Yorkshire Terrier as part of our family since I am born and bred in Yorkshire myself. Now I've moved out and in with my boyfriend, we couldn't resist getting a Yorkie and luckily found one at the RSCPA and rescued him (Casper)- he'd only been in the kennels for two hours and he was shivering like crazy and looked so helpless and 3 days later he was rehomed- my partner also grew up with three yorkies so it's great we share an interest in the Yorkshire Terrier breed. I look forward to your answers which I'm sure will be an interesting read- I must admit when I searched the net months ago for Yorkies to see such a fan-base- Yorkies certainly seem to get around a bit! :) Vikkie and Casper x |
Why do i love these little guys, cause they are just sooooooooo lovely, they are a great house dog, they keep their coat all year, which is great as i suffer from asthma, they dont bother me at all.....and their just want to sit on your knee all the time for attention....it is great......oh and you can put their hair in a bow....awhhhhh |
What's not to like? Because they just don't come any cuter. I love the attitude. I love littel dogs. They are so unique with thier coats that change so srastically as they age and although they are all the same, they are all so different, unlike the cookie cutter dogs in most other breeds. |
They are the sweetest!! They are to me like having a dog, a cat, and a ferret all wrapped up in one personality! Ya never know what your gonna get, they play like a cat, pounce like a ferret, and bark like dogs, and just the cutest things I've ever seen! :animal36 |
Yorkies are my choice because they are just so darn cute! They play like big dogs, love like little dogs and you can dress them up and put pretties in their hair. What is there not to like about a yorkie? Oh, you can also take them places with you much easier than 100 lb dog. :D |
I was 17 just out of high school and wanted a puppy. I wanted an Afghan Hound because I loved long hair, that '60's thing, didn't have a clue how to take care of one, my parents said I could get a Yorkshire Terrier, my mom's from England, so got Karma, again the 60's thing. My dad took me to this house and they had this cute Yorkie and said it was the aunt ot the puppy. Well the puppy was huge, ears down and we took him. I shared a very tiny room with my 18 year old sister who is an animal nut, and her Sheltie and Cockatoo. Karma was a terror that first night and I wanted to take him back, but my sister said she would take care of him. He became the family dog and when I moved out a few years later I couldnn't take him away, so I goy my own little male, Zorro. I've been hooked ever since. |
Personality I had seen a Yorkie for the first time when I was a young teenager, I babysat for a family that had one as a pet. I couldn't get over the personalitly this little guy had, he was happy, friendly, but also very watchful of the kids. My family was all into big dogs so for me to get a "lapdog" was out of the question. I have been reading about and finding out anything there is to know for a lot of years. I always promised myself that after I had kids, and they were old enough to be around a small dog I would have one. This past Valentines day I got MY Bailey. Just like anything I had learned he has a wonderful personality, watchful of the family and certainly displays the unconditional love that I had heard so much about. :iheartu: Bailey :hearts33: |
I loved yorkies because they are beautiful. They have lots of personality and they don't shed. |
I love yorkies because they have so much personality! They are all so different. They are energetic, loving, bright and cuddly.I love my wee girl so much, i am considering getting another Yorkie early next year! |
Honestly, my husband is the one who picked the Yorkie. I guess I grew up with cats, and he wanted a dog, so we compromised on a small dog. He picked the Yorkshire Terriers, because he says it fits me; high energy, bold and adorable  |
We were looking for a small dog that traveled well and did not shed...the rest was an absolute bonus! He is smart, funny, loving, adorable, snuggly, cuddly, cute, comical...shall I go on?? I think ya'll get my drift!!! I love him!!! |
I didn't know why I liked Yorkies so much but then I remembered that my Great Aunt had one and I used to visit and play with it when I was really little. So I guess that is why I love them. I am not really a 'dog' lover (-muddy feet, slobber, yuck), but yorkies are perfect because they have all the benefits of a dog in a cat size package!! |
their poop is small |
Yorkies because My house was too neat, my neighbours too quiet, my house too quiet and I thought the Yorkie was the cutest most exquisite little dog I had ever seen. Now that I have Yorkies, my house has an excuse for being messy, don't care about my neighbours one way or another, my house certainly isn't too quiet and I no longer have friends that don't like dogs, better kind of people anyway that do. |
They are cute - they don't shed - and they are small. I have a bad back and really wanted a dog small enough to pack around, bathe, etc. My 21-pound Bichon is almost impossible form me to bathe. Don't want to go there again! Carol Jean |
i saw one when a was a little girl and always wanted one. bonus they don't shed, hypo-allergenic, small poop, great personality, small size and cute! :aimeeyork |
I didn't think of getting a yorkie, my daughter did. I wanted a small dog and at first we were looking at Pappions. Then my daughter decided she liked the coloring better of the yorkie so I did a lot of research on them before I got one. NOW I am head over heels in love with Starsky. So much I want another one!! I read a post on here, they are like potatoe chips, you can't just have one!!!!!!!!!!! Great traits, personalities, color, lots of love, protecting and fun, fun, fun! :animal37 :animal37 :animal37 :animal37 :animal37 :animal37 :animal37 |
:aimeeyork I would babysit my neighbours yorkie when they were on holiday - and even though mopsy was a snappy little thing, I really missed her when she went home. Now I have some fertility problems, and I thought it may help me not to focus too much on that, which has definately worked, and also I have asthma, and was advised that a yorkie is highly unlikely to affect it, and I havent had any problems with that at all. I also love that they are so fiesty and protective, which Twinkle is, and anyway who could resist those big brown eyes - even my husband succumbs to them!! :yorkiesar :yorkiesar :yorkiesar |
York-weiler attitude!!! 4 Attachment(s) We love their "little" York-weiler attitude. :animal36 They don't shed hair all over. :) AND they are the most loveable things on the planet!! SNUGLI :aimeeyork |
My husband picked yorkies - actually he said one day "If I ever should have a dog, it would be a yorkie." I didn't know them and started researching and ended up visiting a kennel - and we both fell for them 110% Today, I think that since we don't have kids and the dogs are our kids and if I were to choose a human daughter, she should be just like Kali :) |
Love at first sight! I met my first yorkie 17 years ago when I went to my friend's wedding. His wife had a yorkie rescue that was so shy and beautiful! I considered it my personal challenge to become her friend in the two days I was there, and by the time I left, she was sleeping in my lap. When we went home, it was a mission to find a yorkie! Lucky for me, Dave was smitten too! :p |
I love Yorkies because they are the whole package. Big dog, little dog, personality, warmth, playfulness. There is never a dull moment unless they are sleeping and then you wonder what they are doing in their dreams. |
I love Yorkies for ALLLLLLLLLLL the reasons listed so far! I wanted a lap dog that I could take with me easily. I think terriers, as a whole, have more personality than any other breed. They are certainly their "own" dog! Abbie has such a Huge heart in such a small package. The fact that they don't shed is a big +plus+, too! |
I've always had cats and big dogs. I was surprised at myself when last summer I became obsessed with getting a yorkie. I did my research to learn all the technical stuff but didn't really know anything about them otherwise. I'm afraid I nagged my husband to death and when he'd ask why I wanted one so badly, I couldn't put my finger on it. Then one day he said he'd figured it out. With a daughter leaving for college and a son in high school he thought I just wanted a "baby fix". I thought that was ridiculous. Then along came Lilybean. Guess what...he's right (as usual). I wanted a dog to sit on my lap, to pick up and kiss, to cuddle on the sofa with me. She's full of "p*ss and vinegar" as my mom used to say, but just as lovable as can be!! Now I don't know how I survived for so long without her :) I'm starting the campaign for number two, much to my husband's dismay. |
I wanted a Yorkie because they don't shed and because they were portable. I couldn't decide between a Maltese and a Yorkie, but then I decided to go for a little variety since a lot of people I know have Malts. |
I love Yorkies because they are adorables . They always find something to make peoples laugh . There is never a dull moment with them around . |

Now I don't know how I survived for so long without her :) I'm starting the campaign for number two, much to my husband's dismay.[/QUOTE] I completely agree! I originally thought I wanted another cat (my Calico of 13 years went it kitty heaven 3 years ago), but in reviewing what I really wanted, I wanted something to sit on my lap when I wanted it to, to cuddle with me, kiss and hug, yet full of p*ss and vinegar. I also don't know how I survived without her and I want another one, too. My family thinks I'm obsessed - and I am - but I just can't help myself. It helps tremendously that they are hypoallergenic, don't shed and their messes are small so even if they have a house "accident' it isn't that big of a deal. They are easily transportable and just so full of love. |
All of the Above! I would say for all of the above reasons and more! I have every dog Breed imaginable including some "Mutts" from the pound. I have 2 Yorkies and my male Artie is like an 80 yr. old grandfather trapped in a 10.5 lb. fur body, Abigail is like a "Tazmanian Devil" always stalking & hunting something down. They are by far the quickest, smartest most intelligent and funniest dogs I have ever had and they are my first Yorkies. I was in Boston, walking to a Chiropractor's appt. and met a woman w/a 3 yr. old son and she happened to have a 3 and half pound male Yorkie, that was a character! I fell in love, that was a Thursday afternoon and by Sunday evening I was taking the train to the airport to pick-up my own male Yorkie, Artie. That was 2 yrs. ago and I am now a Yorkie fanatic, I would do anything for them. :animal36 I would not have any other Breed, I am ruined for Life! |
