Storm Anxiety.. Anyone ever used a small dose of baby Benedryl for storm anxiety. Gizmo has always suffered with this. Have gone to work many mornings half asleep after being up with him while it rained all night. I swear he can sense weather coming. Giz is 11lbs. of manly man and I just gave him 1ml of the stuff as we are about to have some very bad weather approaching and he is already getting the shakes and running back and forth. What I gave him was a small dose but better safe than sorry. Geez if this works I might even be able to cut his toenails one day without the fight. Am I a bad mom because I wanted to drug my man? Just don't see how these guys can go thru this behavior for hours sometimes without stroking out or something. Villette, hope you got your babies tied down to something, it's a coming girl. ;) |
1 Attachment(s) Awwww...poor baby. I hate to say this but Chanel LOVES storms - she has to do her Yippppeeeeeeeee RUN thru the yard during every rain storm and chase raindrops. I keep a towel right next to the door. For your little guy - I'd try to stay away from medicating him.... I would hold him and make a game out of the thunder. When I hear really loud ones - I'll clap my hands and act like it's a game - that's helped calmed my girls right down and they're not scared of it at all anymore. BUT...if you cuddle him too much and act scared - he may play off that and be even more scared. The other thing is just to distract him - Play with a toy or something and act totally normal - They sense our feelings and if YOU act normal - maybe he'll feel better.... and thanks for the warning - We are in a tornado watch right now and Miss Chanel is soaked to the skin after racing thru the yard in glee. This is what Cheri said after watching Chanel run in the rain...hehe |
Thanks for responding V, everything you said made sense. Just with all the tummy problems he has..was trying to keep him from getting all knotted up inside. He's climbing me as we speak so I need to get off here and go start some distractin'. :D Tell your little mermaid to have a ball for us! :animal36 |
I will ! She doesn't need encouragement though lol I hope that helps - I know Cheri used to be really scared and she is ok now and we just had a bad storm...I've spent the last 1/2 hour playing with them and they're just fine....so it really does work but it may take more than one storm...just keep acting like nothings happening and try to disctract him....even with treats - everything helps and good luck ! |
