It sounds like yours is already use to being alone so I think with someone checking on him once he would be ok. Mine are use to having me here all the time so they definitely would go crazy for that length time. Have you ever thought of getting him a playmate to help pass the time? |

now it looks like it will be more like 8-9 hours and I found a sitter to come get him for a few hours. :) Now I can rest easier! |
Yes, we want to get him a playmate but we want another Yorkie and they are so expensive so we are waiting until he gets old enough to breed so we can get one for free. Plus when he is old enough is the time he will really need it because that is when my husband will be getting a full time job and he will be left all day. |
Georgie is left home no longer than 1 hour at a time, and when he is home he is with his big sister Coco (our boxer). I don't think that I can leave him for longer than that he is a momma's boy :D I think 10 hours is too long IMO for any dog especially a Yorkie they are very attached to people. |
If leaving your puppy home is really the only option (and is the lesser of two evils) ... it may not like being alone for 10 hours - but it will survive - and probably sleep most of the time. If someone is coming over to check on her (this is a good idea) - have them spend a little while with her. Of course - she'll have food and water and everything she needs. **** I went back to work after I had my puppy for a week. And, I'm gone 6 or 7 hours. I did have neighbors that checked on him for the first week or two, but since then he has stayed home alone. He gets along just fine. He doesn't cry when I leave - and he wakes up "yawning" when I return. And, we play play play all evening. See if you can find someone to babysit -- but if you can't - your little pup will do just fine. I'm sure leaving him will be harder on you than it will on him. Good luck - enjoy your trip to the lake. Carol Jean |
Gus is hardly ever left all alone. There were a few times that we went out to dinner and a movie and we left him behind. I would have to say no longer then 4 or 5 hours. But I pretty much take him everywhere with me. Movies, church, Dr. appointments, shopping. People don't even realize he's there. He's such a good boy and will just sit in his carrier. I do make sure he's not just cooped in the carrier the for hours on end. I felt bad about having him in there, but he really doesn't mind as long as he's with mommy! I now this because everytime he ears the words "let's go" or hears the keys he runs to his carrier and backs in. I don't think he would be so excited to get in his bag if he didn't like being in there. |
