first walk outside 2 Attachment(s) Hi guys n girls Daisy just had the last of her shots (YAY) and ive been looking forward to taking her out for a walk soooooooooo much, so finially we set out on our first walk and she absolutley hated it! She seemed terrified of everything especially cars and refused to walk. Ive been taking her out and holding her so she can get used to all the noises and new smells for a couple of weeks and still no joy. :( Any1 got any advice, tips or stories of their first walk with their furbabys. Some new pics aswell :D |
My babies were both terrified as well. Lyric was really scared of grass. lol. My suggestion is just really keep at it. She will grow to love it, as my kids do now. Just go a little at a time. It's really good to get her used to the leash now. It makes it so much easier as they get older and more curious. |
Smudger was the same for about a week. We brought him home in November, and it's cold most of the time in the UK as it is, let alone coming up to christmas so he would just sit down on the pavement and shake :( I'm not a big dressing of dog lover ;) but he was cold so my boyfriends mum bought him a red jumper and he was fine after a little bit of whining. Now he loves his walks so so much when we went camping last week he was being taken constantly by all my cousins and he loves being outside. It's weird to think he was once terrified of being outside lol :D :D Your pictures are really cute by the way :) |
is your baby used to the leash? I let Oliver walk around for awhile in the backyard with the leash and harness on. Our first walks consisted on making it to the sidewalk! I often had to coax him with a treat to follow me. After about a week of this he would go to the end of the block and then charge back to the door- full speed! It's been about 3 montsh and he walks great - right next to me. No barking, no pulling. He hates skateboards though- geez. He just plops his tush down and wont move until it's outta sight. goodluck- just keep at it!!! :) :) :) |
Tyson was the same way!But know he loves to go for walks. he loves to be outside period. I know he hates when people walk behind us or if they are pushing anything-stroller, shopping cart. But as of now-he has never met an enemy! Everyone is his friend |
It just takes a little time. Everything is so big out there! I'd start with short walks, making them longer each day. Before long, she's going to tell you lets go! Happy Walking!!!! :dogwalk: |
Mac & Mellie were the same way, just keep at it. Now I just have to open the drawer that has the harness & leashes in it and they go nuts. Mac still insists on walking on the grass, not the sidewalk unless it is his only option. |
Did you walk with a harness on. I find it is much easier from the start. I think its the only way to go. They dont notice the leash as much and its safier for them. Parker is 4months old and does really good now. At first I just walked in around places that were quiet. No traffic, not much noise, etc. It didnt take him long to catch on. Now....Nothing scares him!!! Not even big dogs. |
What a cutie ~ |
