Debarking .... Do people actually have surgery done - to stop their dogs from barking???? Have any of you done this? **** I am not considering doing this - in any way whatsoever!!! I am just curious about it. Carol Jean |
I have heard of this before, i don't know anyone that has had it done to their dogs. I would never think of having it done to my dogs... they are allowed to voice their opinion lol |
I have heard of it but I dont know any one who would do such a thing. They drive me crazy at times but I would never even consider it. |
I have heard of it. I believe they slice the dog's vocal cords. The dog still "barks" but it is very soft. I heard that it's more apt of debarked dogs to get vicious at people or other dogs because they don't have their loud bark to "protect" them. I would never do it, but that's just me. ;) |
I considered it!! I had a Sheltie that had a horrifying non-stop bark when I wasn't home. My husband HATED her because of it. I explored de-barking, and when I found out what they did, I refused to have it done. To keep the peace in my family, we eventually re-homed Betsy with my sister. She was home all the time, and Betsy did not bark as much because she got major attention. :p |
Absolutely no way. :( I've heard of this but I LOVE hearing my girls 'talk' and to take that away from them would be cruel. It's my understanding that the procedure done by vets is different than what I heard about Debarking at Puppy Mills. But..it must REALLY HURT a dog to do this. I think it's cruel no matter what. Puppy Mills do this in a horrifying way ...and I won't post it.... but let's just say it made me cry when I found out years ago. |

PS, Matt said the same thing to me when we had Baby in the apartment and she was barking a lot. He said "what about debarking?" I said HELL no, I'd rather get kicked out! :p |

I did find out more about debarking and instead of burying it in this thread - I started a "Debarking thread #2"..... Hope you find it interesting.... I'm not considering this procedure... my little guy's barking is tolerable - but I am curious about it and certainly do feel sorry for those of you whose little dogs bark their little hearts out... sometimes wish i could debark my kids :D When my kids would get sick with the usual toddler ailments and whine and fuss over everything (children seem to do that excessively when they are sick)-I'd tell my husband "why couldnt it have been laryngitis"...haha once my son did get laryngitis and I cracked up....guess you really do get what you wish for. |
