Hairless Tail Puppy Yorkie Hi~ I never had a dog before and I chose a Yorkie b/c I wanted a toy dog that doesn't shed (oh, I named him Foofy). He's been w/ me for a month and a half now and we've been going to a basic puppy training classes together. He's learning well; I'm so proud of my little Yorkie. He's very hyper especially out in public and I can't seem to get him to calm down. He's so eager to go here and there rather than stay put like I like him to. I see other Yorkies that aren't as hyper as he is and I wish he was a little bit more mellowed out. When I first got him he looks fine (a bit thin side but overall fine) but I didn't noticed that he didn't have long hair on his tail like the rest of his body. He's a thin coat in comparison to other yorkies I've seen, do you think his hair will get thinker as he gets older? His hair color is coming in now and he seems like he's going to be a very light Yorkie. I guess I'm a little worry that he'll never grow longer hair on his little tail. There are some hair there just enough to cover his one inch tail. Would you have any advice for me in getting my Foofy to calm down in public w/ other people and dogs? Also, I'm somewhat concern as to why he doesn't have much hair on his tail. Thnx WS of RI |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk! You and Foofy will learn lots from this site! I keep the hair on my babies "stubbies" trimmed a little shorter than their body hair just because I love the way it looks. I love to see their little stubs wagging at the speed of light! :D ( a happy yorkie tail- is there anything cuter?? ) Maybe his previous owner trimmed the hair on his tail and that is why it is shorter? I am sure that in time it will grow out some. Some yorkies puppies have a body full of hair that will not quit, others take their sweet time growing their adult coats. Would love to see some pictures if you have any! |

My Tori was the same way. I thought the worst possiable about the previous owner. It has grown and looks completey normal... |

Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I also have a yorkie who is very hyper in public and loves everybody. He thinks everyone should love him right back too! Depending on his age, your Yorkie may be going thru a change in his hair growth. They all seem to have different type coats. Oscar had really pretty hair on his tail and last week I had him groomed by a new groomer. I forgot to mention that I wanted the hair left on his tail, and they chopped it all off! He has a short haired little nubby now! But I guess it will grow! Good luck with your puppy classes! |

Welcome to YT....My 5 month old can be qute hyper too.....but daily walking helps and he isn't as bad now when he sees people as he used to be, good luck to you. |

Hi All~ Thank you for your input. I guess I'll have to wait and see how his overall coat comes in as he gets older. As I mentioned earlier I only had him for a month in a half and I'm so in love w/ him. Having said that, in the past couple of days I've been thinking of getting another male yorkie b/c I feel bad for leaving him all alone while I'm at work. Does anyone think it's too soon for me to get another Yorkie considering I'm new into the Mommy role? I would love for you all to see a picture of my Foofy but I'm having a hard time attaching. The system keeps telling me that my files are too large even if I attached one piture at a time. Thnx WS of RI |

?????????? A hyper Yorkie, Really???? What Yorkie isn't hyper. I think that's there trait. Sorry, but I have never seen a calm Yorkie. Well older ones yes, but puppies no? I always thought that that was there personality as for the tail, don't worry hair should grow in and I believe the hair color changes. Don't really know but I posted something about hair color a while back and that's what I got as a response. |

Sorry Can't help u with the pics thing as I don't know either...Sorry...But as for getting another Yorkie...It's never 2 soon. Double the Pleasure, Double the fun. Your baby would have someone at all times, a companion. And as for being new to the mommy role, let ur instincts take it's toll. I bet you will be a Wonderful Mommy...Love conquers all... Quote:

Welcome to Yorkietalk and good luck with your new baby! As far as pictures go-it took me a while too! You have to downsize them majorly-I used the free programme from admin.Look on their advice post-attatching pictures. My 6 month yorkie has lots of energy too,but calms down after a good walk or game of fetch! I take kibble on walks so I can give her some when we meet people to get her to sit,not jump! Dog people don't mind, though! another Yorkie would keep him company-or consider a kitten. They will be the best of friends if introduced young! |

Personally, I would take pictures of your Foofy (adorable name) and keep them on hand. If you paid good money for the adoption of your baby and he's a purebred, I would definitely talk to the breeder. I'm not saying give your Yorkie back - Lord knows, even if something was wrong with Mattie's appearance I would never have returned him; Yorkies just make you fall in love with them so fast so hard that returning them is like cutting off your own arm! But who knows? maybe you'll have a breeder with honor and he/she might refund you money since the puppy didn't "turn out" to the standard. Just a thought... |

Also Concerned I have a 14 week old yorkie that I've had for 6 weeks now and I am also worried about how his coat is going to look. The hair on his legs is real short and doesn't seem to have grown since I've got him but the hair on his body has definitely gotten longer. He also has very thin hair on top of his head that has already changed to a very light tan at the roots. I love him dearly and would never take him back to the breeder but I hope his coat gets better. He is the sweetest little thing and is already settling down and is taking well to the pee pee pad training. He also had his first poo outside today on our walk. He usually holds it until we get home but I guess he is learning from my other dogs. Dylan is helping to heal my heart from the loss of my Kramer. |

Welcome to YT! I found that all yorkies are different when it comes to hair growth... Two of mine (Jasmine and Butch) came to me with very short hair on their legs.... both of them have since had a "normal" growth of hair all over. Sometimes it just takes awhile. As far as hyper-dog.... He may outgrow it... they seem to mellow out the older they get.... Best of luck! :) |

Hi All~ I was somehow able to post Foofy's picture on the Gallery section of the YT site but unable to add his pic to picture profile (He weighs just about 2.5lb now). If you have a chance he's wearing a green/white vest. Noticed the hairless tail! Yeah...I'm not taking him back to the pet shop at this point I'm too taken back by his goofiness. When I take him out to do his business in the back yard he'll first rolls around the grass until he's all dirty first then he'll do his business. I share everyone's concern for a good coat but I believe a good diet and consistent grooming will serves them right...hopefully. Best to everyone... |
