My neighbor's son is driving me nuts. My next door neighbors 9 year old son is making me nuts. I have talked to his Mom but it doesn't seem to do any good. Whenever they are in the front playing he will call Mellie and encourage her to go under the fence. I have talked to him about how dangerous it is for her to be in the front yard and even if they are with her all it takes is one second for her to get hit by a car. I blocked up the spot she could get out. Yesterday I was in the yard and he was calling Mellie by the back of our fence. Turns out he dug a whole for Mac and Mellie to crawl under. I have told him if he wants to come and play with them in the backyard just ask. I tried talking to his Mom but she really didn't seem to care. I can't go through this all summer any suggestions? |
wow! Thats a bad spot to be! Im sorry! I would have a serious talk with the parents. If they still fail to listen then I would be way more aggressive about it. You may just have to put your foot down even if it seems rood. You do what you have to do to protect your babies! |
Oh, I would be so mad like you are. A 9 yr. old knows better, it's not like its a two or 3 yr. old and they don't understand. I guess you just need to try and talk to the parents again. After that happens and the son continues to dig holes and calling your dogs then I would tell the parents that the child is no longer welcome in your yard. Maybe you could even say it to the 9yr. old next time he is at your house. Just be nice and say unless you stop call the dogs out of the yard and stop making places to let them out then I won't allow you to come and see them anymore. He's old enough and should understand. I would be very upset about this! What if you lose your babies b/c they think they can go over there all the time!? I would have a serious talk with the parents and go from there!!! |
Well the only advice I can think of will leave you with some neighbor ememies....don't ask/tell them nicely any more....kid included. Our neighbor's use to hate us (long story.... ) but let me put it this way....nothing kept our daughter out of someone's yard better than thinking they were a mean ol' coot. If her ball went in their yard...she kissed it goodbye.... |

I say talk to the parents again nicely. You do not want to start feuding with your neighbors. They could easily poison your dog to get back at you. |

On a serious note I would definetly let BOTH the parents know that they will be responsible financially if anything happens to either your pups, your property, or their dumb kid. Then I would smack the kid upside the head when noone is lookin! ROFL! |

Do you have an Homeowners Association? I would have talk with the parents again, but be a little more forcefull. I he dug a hole on your property, I guess you could call the police on them. |
Talk to them again. Go out and take pictures of the holes that this kid has dug. If the kid continues then maybe you could file some sort of complaint with the police department. I understand that you guys are neighbors but this kid is trying to teach your pup bad habits of digging and escaping. Who will pay if your dog gets lost? |

I would give this one more "nice" shot...but make it "official"! Go knock on their door, with a dog in arms, and pleasantly ask to speak to the child AND a parent together, if not both parents. Nicely (again!) mention the problem you've had, and that another hole has been dug. Since parents get defensive of their kids awfully fast, don't approach it like, "your rotten kid....", approach it as, "I know how kids are...." And then nicely (AGAIN!!!) offer that he can come over and visit the dogs at your house anytime he wants, per your convenience. THEN if it's still a problem after all that....it would be time to get ugly! :D |

I know that's right!! That kid would know not to dig holes by my fence cause I would give him that look  when I had a talk with him. |
My brother had the same problem with the neighbor kid and his Rott. Finally after talking to the parents several times and then threats with calling the police he sat and waited in his garage for the kid and when ti kid approached the fence, he ran out with this hidious halloween mask and scared the hell out of that poor kid. It seem to work the kid has never come back to his house... |
