I know I know No one wants to see anymore pee pee questions, but I'm dumbfounded. I need the advice of anyone who's gone through this or has any ideas. Coco is outside and pee pad trained. Lately, for like a week, she mostly goes on the pad, but then at some point she goes on the edge of the pad, missing the pad and going on the carpet. She hasn't done this since she was a puppy.I checked her eyes, by doing things requiring her to focus her sight, so I know it's not like an sight issue. It's like she is doing it on purpose. I don't know how to discourage this behavior as I usually come home to it after work or I dont see her doing it. She will mostly go on the pad but then this random on the carpet pee, right next to the pad. What should I do?? |
My girls do that sometimes too, they are actually on the pad but their little bottoms are hanging off and they miss! I dont get onto mine for that bc I think that they actually mean to hit the pad! |
i had the same problem. there is a spray from simple solutions that actually attracts them to pee on it. i spray it in the middle of romeos pad and he goes right for it. they sell it @ petsmart. happy training! :) |
If her front is on the pad, she sees pad, she doesn't realize that her butt is hanging over the edge. My guys will do that with poop. They walk as the poop, so although they might start out on the pad, by the time it drops they are off. I give them credit for that. They don't do it on purpose to piss you off. They are trying to please you, they're just not perfect. |
lexi does that too. i realized that the pad had pee on it so she would try to find a dry spot and therefore go on the edge and gets pee on the carpet... if thats not it, then it beats the heck out of me... |
put one of those baby matress pads under the pee pad making an "outer rim" in case they miss. actually the matress pad is all I use. it is big and as long as I keep a pretty fresh one down they will hit the pad. I have a problem with the poop hitting the target. Tressie will start out on the pad but walk off as she is pooping. she has good intentions. I can't fault her for trying. in their mind they are doing the right thing and they are. Its just that they are lousy in the aim. |
No guys she had not done this before, since she was like 10 weeks old. she doesn't do that on the pad on my balcony, just on the pad in the one room. I don't get it. She doesn't go in random places, she is potty trained, but I don't get how all of a sudden she's missing her pad. I even place two next to each other when I'm not home, so she has lots of room to go and doesn't miss. <sigh> can I do anything about this? I can't use that nature's miracle because it smells bad and she actually avoided the pad when I put that on there when she was a puppy. |
I'm in the process of training an 18 week old puppy, so I, by no means, have any "perfect" answers. But I have gotten lots and lots of great advice from members here. One idea was to put the pad in something that has sides and a back so that the puppy has the sense of entering an enclosed space. Another idea was to use a wee wee pad holder. They are made of plastic and can be bought at Petsmart or Drs. Foster and Smith. We haven't been successful with the one from Petsmart which comes apart easily. I understand the one from Drs. Foster and Smith is sturdier. I'm actually thinking of buying it. Another thought is to use a plastic boot tray under the pad to protect your carpet. If you find great success using a particular method, I hope you share your method. |
I find that Ness does this when I haven't changed his pad soon enough. He goes right on (or off) the edge of the pad in order to find a "clean" spot! |
I thought that I wasn't changing it fast enough either but yesterday, she hadn't even gone on the pad and she went on the edge. The pads were both completely clean. I don't get it. |
i dont get it either. these little ones have a mind of their own.... little brats |

Have you by any chance recently changed pad brands? I had a similar problem when I switched brands---why? Who knows. i just thought I would throw that out there. |
i had changed from wee pads to newspaper in her pad holder and now im back to wee pads and she's doing good again...guess i have to stick with that.. |
Nope I haven't changed the brand of pads. They are the same I've always used.. |
Ok seriously, I need some real advice. No I will not give her credit for peeing near the pad because for the last year she's known where to pee, and she is still doing it. I am seriously about to lose it with her. I got so pissed this morning, and yelled at her even though I know it won't do a damn thing. I need help and real advice because I ruin my relationship with my dog. |
