tips on getting a second furbaby... so i'm in the market for a second furbaby...i have some questions for those of you with multiple dogs in your home. - how did you prepare for the second one? - does it make a difference if the new furbaby is older vs. a 8-12 week old baby? - what did you do to help your first yorkie/doggie get used to the new one? - what are some challenges you've faced? - if you can do it over again, what would you do differently? - have you ever reconsidered your decision to get another dog? if so, why? i wanna hear about any possible pitfalls BEFORE i officially go for it!! thanks! |
Well I dont regret getting my second one! I think that its so much easier having 2! I didnt really prepare a whole lot when I got Daisy, I just kinda got her in the spur of the moment. Chloe was really jealous of Daisy at first but within a few days they started getting along great. I took them to work with me everyday until I could trust them to be home alone together! |
We have double to love here and don't regret it a bit ! They are sisters, 2 yrs apart, same parents. They are 8 yrs old and 6 yrs old now .They get along great ! Even eat out of a twin bowl, love to ride in their carseat or stroller together and even sleep next to each other. The older one seems to 'mother' her little sister as when she arrived at 12 wks, she had early health issues. It seemed like she was concerned and was big sister help. If we did it over, we wouldn't do anything differently. :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I didn't prepare really.... We have only had our new baby for 1 week. I made sure I greeted Maggie ( our older baby) before letting her see her new sister. We than let them meet outside and slowly moved inside all the while talking sweetly to Maggie. There wasn't a problem at all until the 3rd day when Maggie realized Tilly was here to stay. The toys are our greatest problem, when I see one that is causing them to feel upset, I just put it on the counter for a few days before I give it back to them. Don't know if it will help but over all they really like each other. They sleep together since the 2nd night and love to play. It's soooooo cute, :D I wouldn't go back to just one dog again. |
-Well we got Buddy in a small notice, we weren't so prepared at first. -Buddy, my second yorkie, is 6 or 7 years old now and my first yorkie, Jeremiah, is 16 months and they are jealous and snappy at each other but they grown into each other. -We just let them get used to each other and with the other house pets. I never left them alone together for the first few weeks. -They fought and were kinda snappy at each other and since they are both males they wanted to be the dominate one. -Nothing much, I think I raised them pretty well together. -No, having two or more yorkies is a joy and a blessing. :D |
