Eeeeek!!! My Yorkie Has 2 Sets Of Teeth Hello everyone,:wavey: I'm Chewys mom and today I noticed that he had 2 sets of teeth, and I'm not sure what to do.Should I have them puuled or will he be ok? He is my 1st yorkie and he is only 6 months old, I got him from my aunt this past year for christmas as her male and female had 4 pups in the last litter. And my 2nd concern is that he is an inbred dog, is it true that, thats how and where the bloodline comes from? Im stupid at being a yorkie owner as I dont know much about them, although I have done some research after I got him, but never did I think that he would come out with 2 sets of teeth.. thanks everyone. CHEWYS WORRIED MOM  |
Is that his baby teeth? His baby teeth should fall out, sometimes they don't fall out on their own, I'd suggest taking Chewy to a vet as soon as you can, most likely they will pull one set (the baby teeth). Welcome to YorkieTalk! We look forward to getting to know Chewy better! :) |
Hi, and Welcome to YT....My Bailey is 5 months old and last week while playing with him, I noticed that he had 2 rows of teeth on the top...I was so worried , wasn't sure if I should call the vet....I searched YT for anything I could find about double rows and got a lot of information. We played a light game of tug of war with an old sock we had given him to play with, and bam....within 2 days they all came out except one, it's still there, but very loose so I hope it will come out soon too.....maybe you could try that?..I really don't like the idea of having to put him under again, as he has allready been nutered.....Sorry I can't help with the breeding question.....Can't wait to see pictures of your little furbaby. :wavey: :yorkiesar |
Mine had two sets of teeth and I thought it looked so horrible. Then I realized that they were baby teeth as I saw the adult teeth, much longer and wider, start coming in. All of her baby teeth fell out and now she has a pretty smile. In-breeding is bad in most to all cases. The only time it should be done is to preserve a certain bloodline, an excellent one it has to be, and then I still just do not like in breeding, there are too many complications and negative effects if the person does not know what they are doing. I personally would never do it, but that just me. Welcome to YT!! :welcome4: You will love it here! |
It might be better to have them pull out to avoid future problems . |
:wavey: :welcome4: Welcome to YT!!!! I think what you have is baby teeth. Sometimes they don't fall out on their own. I would take him to the Vet for a dental checkup. He might just need some chew toys to help get them out. But they might have to be pulled. In any case it's always best to be on the safe side and have him seen. :2hearts2: |
Hi and welcome to yorkietalk. I think you are seeing the baby teeth and adult teeth. Mac had two rows on the bottom but almost all fell out on their own. The remaining baby teeth were pulled when he was neutered. Can't wait to see picture of your baby. |
Cali is 10 months old and has 2 sets of teeth. She has retained them all and when she was spayed they couldn't pull them because they wanted to bring her out because of some problem. I hate to put her under again. Just last night I was playing with a soft toy with her and she let out a yelp and I looked in her mouth and 1 of her front teeth came out. I am hoping a few more will fall out if not I will have them pulled in a couple of months. |
Make sure you let him have chew toys and I would give it 2-3 more months and whatever baby teeth are still left get them pulled. |
I just wanted to welcome you! I am sure you have called your vet by now, so be sure to let us know what they say! I love it here, you will, too! |
Topher has lost most of his baby teeth but does have doubles on some of his bottom ones...canines included. My vet is going to pull those that haven't fallen out on their own when he goes in to get neutered next week. From what I've been told, it can create problems if the baby teeth don't come out. It does look funny with the two sets of teeth, that's for sure, but it does seem quite common with these little guys (and gals!) I was playing with Topher last night and a tooth just plopped out onto the floor! He seems to lose one every couple of days or so. I've found one in his water dish, and he spit one out onto the kitchen floor last week...that was so funny...the look on his face..lol. |
teeth both of mine had retained baby teeth and when they were neutered and spayed the vet removed them. You said your aunt's male and female had puppies but the question is are they related and how closely are they related? |
Chachi had double teeth untill he was neutered then the vet removed them. |
thanks margaritaville...I was just going to ask the exact same question :) I'm confused. (and that doesn't take much for me ;)) I thought originally that CHEWYSMOM was just concerned that they MIGHT be inbred, but as I read again, I'm thinking that they are? |
My yorkie is 2 and still has one baby tooth on the bottom right. The vet said eventually he will pull it out but since it does not bother him to leave it. It has been there since he was 6mos old. He was neutered then and the vet tried to get it out but it was in there to solid. It is still there. |
