Back in a leg cast My poor Lexi is getting bad again. She is not aloud outside at all. Her leg is awful, I insisted on another skin test for underskin mites, That came back neg. (yeah) They wanted to put a e-collar on her but I asked them if we could cast it again. She does way better with the cast than the e-collar. So she is now in a vented cast. The new vet also thinks it could possibly have something to do with her hormones. (for those who weren't here last year) She was spayed at 6 months and the vet called right after her surgery to tell me she only had 1 ovary and 1 kidney. Well apparently they were wrong because at 9 months my baby girl went into heat. Anyway her itching started around the time of her first heat. She was in heat for 6 weeks and then a month or 2 after she was doing great with the itching. Then about 2 months ago she went back into heat and shortly after started itching again, and is now worse than ever. Anyway, the good news is this new vet doesn't want to put her through any more allergy test for awhile. He wants to treat what we do know and wait til her next heat. The bad news we think she is going to have to be respayed to find out if it is hormones making her itch so bad. |
What The He**?!? I pray to GOD (choose one) that you've since changed to a different veterinarian! How is it possbile for you to be told that she is spayed (when you took her in at 6 months) and she really have not been spayed? Typically an ovarian hystorectomy is done in which they remove not only BOTH ovaries (as they exist), but also the uterus. This is the most commong procedure. Had this been done, there's NO WAY she could go in season, as she has nothing there! Not only that, but if she's really missing a kidney, this could possibly be part of her issue w/ itching! The body isn't filtering the "funk" out of the bloodstream properly which can lead to a host of uncomfortable issues. In either case, while I'm not a vet (somewhat of a scientist) I would really hope that if possible you take her to someone who actually knows what they're doing and quit wasting your money. I hope your furbaby feels better soon! |
Here's a link to a lot of information on skin allergies. http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/health/skin.htm |

poor Lexi, baby been thru so much, she will be in our prayers, hope she gets better soon :lovewings |
oh that poor baby girl.... i will pray for her... lexi is sending hugs and kisses to her.. |
jm2c "Actually they don't need anything more than just a piece of ovarian tissue to have the hormones for a heat cycle, and yes I have switched vets " Your dog can have a heat cycle, but not in the sense of what most think of. The lining of the uterus is shed and if she was spayed, then she cannot shed the lining of somethign that shouldn't exist. Further she can have symptoms of a heat cycle, but shouldn't be bleeding-yeah there will be discharge most likely. Ask your vet about this (again). I hope you didn't have to pay for the surgery or are being compensated in some way for this. It sounds like you didn't get the service that you asked for. (yeah, she can't get pregnant if the procedure was only performed partially, but she's still going through many of the symptoms that no doubt you didn't want her to go through)...sorry my phone's ringing, I'll try to get back to this- |

Poor Lexi and mommy! I hope she feels better soon. |
I remember your story about Lexi when she went in heat again after they had told you about her having only 1 ovary. I actually told my vet to make sure to take both out b/c i told them your story and they said they would make sure they did. LOL She has been through so much...bless her little heart. Everything will be alright. Take a deep breath and have some faith. :p |
Prayers for your little baby. How sad she has to suffer this. Also it is so hard on you to see her like that. |
Oh Poor Lexi! We are sending her lots of love and thoughts! I sure hope your vet can get to the bottom of this, it's so sad when our babies are sick :( |
