lump on side my yorkie alexander had his some shots 1 1/2 weeks ago. he has a lump on his side, and i'm not sure if that is from the shot. he's getting nueterd this friday and i'm really scared. |
lump If the lump is in the same area as the injection site, I would say so..if not I still wouldn't worry too much, he is going to the vet anyway..if he is a pup, it would be very rare for it to be anything serious, like cancer. |
how old is he? what kind of shot did he get? and where exactly is the lump? |

lump Probably the shot..some vets stick the needle farther back..some put it in the neck skin. Next time he gets a shot,rub the area for about 5 mins. |
i agree........ if he is four months old it is highly unlikly that it would be cancer |
When we got Sebastian he had a big knot and it took about 2 weeks for it to go away. I asked the vet and he said it was from the shots, they actually use the same size syringe as they use on big dogs :eek: You would think with all the technology we have now a days they could find something smaller. Anyways I would not worry about it so much but I would definately point it out to the vet. |
its funny you say that.... my dad is a machine molder and he fabricated these "syringes" that are right out of the futuristic movies, it doesnt use a needle at all, it has a small hole and the medication (or whatever) is shot through the hole at high pressure and enters through the skin... it is pretty kewl |

No worries, Bo had a little bump too after his first shot. It took weeks to go away. |
YorkieRose- Hefner had the same kind of lump afte his rabies and I was concerned so the vet aspirated it. She didn't charge me to do that but I wish now that Ihad not let them do that to him because it hurt him and now he won't let them give him a shot. He fights like crazy. Last time they had to give him the nasal spray! Have you heard of that? Is it as effective? I also wondered about the strength of the immunization if the lump forms because then does all the medicine stay there and not get into the system where it's supposed to be? |
I posted a message a few days ago about my concern with rabies shots. Otis STILL has a bump and has lost all of his hair at the site of the shot. He's turning six this july, so he's had two rabies shots in his life, and both times he had a bump and lost hair. I really want to skip the shot the next time, but I"m afraid they won't give me a dog license. The loss of hair is even more disturbing. It almost looks like a cancerous tumor. Even though Otis himself didn't seem to be affected by it physically, I'm extremly hestitant about administering his next set of shots. |
I forgot to mention that Otis had his rabies shot two years ago, and still has the bump/loss of hair |
