When Do They Settle Down? Tyke is always bouncing off the wall with energy. He drives the other 2 nuts. It's cute tho.Zip loves to play with him until he plays to ruff and he gets hurt. But I am so worn out. I take him for nice long walks to.Tyke will take every toy away from zip is that normal? Even when he not playing with it. Will this last a yr or longer? |
Hmm. not to upset your applecart,,but Bailey was OUT OF CONTROL, on 10 all the time,,until about 1.5 years old, I noticed a big change when he was a year and a half... other people comment also,, " He's so much calmer, He's so much better." I'm thinking... wonder what they said about him before... Probably don't wanna know. |
let me know.........lol i find when you have multi dogs i dont think it ever stops i think they learn how to relax but its always play time here the toy thing i buy all the boys the same toys but they still want the other ones |
LOL... terriers have very high energy levels, get used to it. ;) i usually take daisy on daily walks (2miles+) and when we get home, she still wants to play and run around. |
Puppies and toddlers, there is no end to their energy. Do you have a fenced yard where they can play? |
We have occasional periods of rest. Usually when everyone else is busy. Other than that it's playtime at our house until about 1 am :dogzzz: |
Oh boy! Sounds like you got yourself a mover! LOL Mine, for some reason have been docile and very calm. I have been lucky..... but I know some pups just wanna PLAY PLAY PLAY and you have one of those! Don't worry... it should get better after a year..... they do clam a little.... sometimes..... LOL Just take a lot of energy bars for now! :p |
Energy bars didnt think of that. lol I need it. I complain but I love them to pieces. they woke up at 530 am going strong now it is 10.30 they were down for 17 min at it again lol |

settle down :lol This is what yorkies are full throttle intertainment!! high energy ball :yay_jump: tears :eyetearss :doghop: :sidesplt: all kidding aside, eventually they do settle down! It reminds me of sami when he was that old I was just about asking the same question. he just full of curiosity whats this? whats that? running up & down, :big_hug: |
He will definately settle down! I promise! My sister's yorkie (now 3 years old) was such an extremely bad puppy!!!! Now all she does is lay around. My yorkie, Hobbs, is just 6 months old and still SO hyper! He runs and jumps all over Sophie and literally antagonizes her to death! But Sophie is so docile that she just stands there and lets Hobbs do it. I love how Sophie is so calm, but sometimes I wish she would by just a little hyper sometimes. I guess it is one extreme or the other! |
oh if you add another when your are older be prepared brownie WAS a calm dog (4years) now that we have 2 puppies in th house hes all over the place more than them i have a blast watching them !! |
How old are they all?Are you home with them all day,or is he bouncing with energy after being quiet when you are at work?Do they have a garden to play in too? Sounds as though you are walking enough.Games of fetch tire my pup out a bit in between walks. They are all different, like children, but I am sure he will calm down eventually. What are you feeding? Perhaps it could be making him hyper-just an idea. |
Give them all something nice to chew-my pup loves pork chews of any sort and will chew for a good half an hour or more. Peace! Separate them for an hour to give the others a rest and play fetch with Tyke. I have to do this with the cats and my puppy, who start to scratch. Just some ideas. |
Yes they are very hyper dogs! You just have to wait it out and they will eventually calm down! And fighting over toys, in my house that is a daily thing that goes on, I can buy 10 of everything but they never want their own they always want what they other one has  |
Missy gets really wound up at times and I'm trying something new with her. I hold her in my arms really close to my body. With my left hand, I hold her two front paws. With my right hand, I lightly press her head against my body and keep saying softly..... "SETTLE" (softly). It's working! I don't put her down until she settles down. Then I put her in her bed. |
My girls calmed down around a year but they still do have moments where they are wild and crazy it is just not all the time anymore!! I would stick with the walks and let them run around as much as possible, get all that energy out and they should eventually calm down a bit!! |
Mine are one and they have settled down as far as they dont chew everything anymore. When they play they still play hard though. |
I am home all day long with them. Can you imagine if I worked? I love them but enjoy it when they settle down for a bit but it never when I am resting to lol. I feed them Iam I heard from a dog trainner that for Tyke maybe give him the adult food instead. What do you think of that? They have a pen to go outside but we want to get a little fence started for Tyke and then run him around. I do play fetch with him and so does Ed when he comes home. Tyke is the one that we take every where when possible. Today I took Benji to give him extra mom time. He loved it. |
Check with your vet on the food. Mine didnt want you to change to adult food before 1 year old. |
Lucky is three and as energetic as can be. She gets a 30-60 minute fast walk/jog a few times a week and she still cannot seem to get enough play time! It used to drive us nuts, but now we think it's cute and other people think WE are nuts! :D |
