Does Anyone Watch The Dog Whisperer? Does anyone watch the "Dog Whisperer" Cesar Millan? (Check your Local listings for specific time & channel?) I think he's incredible....so simple, I guess it's the human owners that really need to be "Trained", most likely if your reading this......you are Trained by your Yorkie! I have 2 of them, so I guess that means I'm double Trained? :p LOL! Watch and Learn, I'm even going to order his DVD. from his website. |
Some things about him I like... Some things I do NOT like. I think Cesar is a little brutal sometimes. I would not yank my dog around like he yanks theirs... :( |
Pick & Choose? I do agree with his train of thought.....but I do agree with you, his practical methods are for larger dogs and I don't think they would apply to Yorkies, since they are much smaller, even though Yorkies have the "Ego's" of a larger dog the application would be much less or not as harsh? |
Here at YT, we go for positive training! Quote:

The guy is incredible to watch and I have his DVD and his new book (which I like better to help understand dog thinking) BUT I would never, ever do some of the things he is suggesting with a Yorkie. Especially fear biters. I am a big believer of positive training and combine this with excercise like he suggests and these little ones will do lots of wonderful things for us. :) |
No but i wish i could! I believe its on the national geographical channel which i get but maybe yours is different from mine in the uk |
Right now if i had the money for him, i would send Harley to him for training |
If I had the vacation time, I would send me to him,its not the yorkies that are not trained in my house, its me,the babies are only doing what I must have said is ok,so I guess I need to be jerked around by my chain, cause my babies jerk me around all the time with sweetness and personality :aimeeyork its my heart they jerk around |

I just started watching this show last night since I couldn't sleep and it's on late here. I had heard of Cesar before but never watched the show. My yorkie is still a puppy so I always thought his behavior was just him being just that a puppy. Stevie is only on a leash when we go for walks or to the pet store, but around the house just tonight I tried a few things that have seemed to help calm him down so he isn't all over the place like he has adhd. To my amazement just tonight alone he has calmed down a little. I used the sssh technique and that got his attention. When he grabbed onto my baby's toys I did it again and sat him into a laying position and he stayed there! I stood still for a while, he started to jump on me and bite at my sweats and I just ignored him and he stopped, sat back down right at my feet. So while I agree there are some things I wouldn't do (yanking him by the collar) I do think that some of his techniques may help us calm my puppy. I'm going to Barnes and Nobles tomorrow to purchase the book. |
My Husband and I watch Caesar and while I agree that some things he does arent for yorkies there is alot he does which is helpful. My husband loves him and tapes his shows. |
notice when he yanks big dogs...he uses a special collars. i would do the same to my yorkie too with an harness. i trust cesar. |
Caesar doesn't "yank" dogs by the collar.... he pulls quickly only enough to get their attention...sometimes hardly at all....it depends on the dog, and, of course, sometimes it's really a battle trying to calm down the bigger unruly dogs.... I think the way he manages the larger aggressive dogs is the least rough treatment I have ever seen a trainer use... Carol Jean |
Cesar is a Dog Trainer Period! I Beleive Cesar is an expert Dog Trainer......and those are extreme cases on his show. I don't think he specializes in a particular breed, Yorkies or otherwise? A dog is a dog. All Yorkies have the same traits, I have learned this through YT. I used to think I had unique problems but after being on this site I found out they are all similar. Luckily, I found Yorkie Talk or I wouldn't have survived my first Yorkie and moved on to a second one-female at that. I have had many dogs and actually a larger one is easier to control than a smaller one w/c is much quicker, more fiesty, more intelligent! If I could afford him I would send them too. :aimeeyork |

Guys, I think he is one very cute dude. I would send me to him too!!! :D I don't own a TV so I can't watch his show. A dear dear friend from right here on YT pre-ordered his book and had it sent to me. I have started doing the "power" walks with Chattie and Peppy. It is amazing how much it has changed their attitudes..... and Chattie is not so interested in fighting. It is critical to remember that Cesar deals mostly with very large aggressive dogs who are with him because it is their last chance. I do wish he would do something scaled down for our little guys. |
