Aggression between 2 puppies I'm at a loss as to how to handle this issue. Several weeks ago we left Sophie & Daisy at the kennel in order to attend a wedding in FL. Upon our return, their relationship had changed a bit. Sophie was much more aggressive to Daisy (who has always been the 'alpha dog') and there was a snarling fight or two daily. I wasn't too concerned, in that they weren't getting hurt. We again left them this weekend at the kennel, and now the fighting is much worse. To the point that a few moments ago, Sophie cut Daisy's eye lid with either her nail or tooth. I called the vet and the vet is of the opinion that Sophie is trying to establish herself as the Alpha dog. One more thing - Sophie is a *girl* but she is trying desperately hard to impregnant Daisy Another sign of dominance. If any of you yorkie owners have any helpful hints or resources as to how to treat this aggression, I would appreciate it. It's horrible to see one of them hurt the other. i do not want to separate them, as they are a part of our family, and the 99% of the time that they are together, all is well and loving. Thanks for any input. |
It appears this comes out because of the stressful situation in the kennel. I will tell you when I go away I have a bonded pet sitter come to my home as this not as tramatic to the dogs. In fact sometimes I wonder if they even know I am gone as they love the sitter so much. Hopefully given a little time and you paying special attention to Ms. Domination (get the leather and the whips out) she will calm back down and not feel so threatened. |
Thanks for the response! My sister has offered to be their pet sitter on the rare occasion that I leave town. She has a yorkie, too, and loves for mine to visit. The kennel has been awesome, or so I thought, but apparently there is some issue there which has created the aggression. Or it could be something that we are doing wrong. I'm going to keep my eyes opened to see what might trigger it here. |
pups Are the girls spayed...living with unspayed girls can be a pain sometimes. LOL |
THey were both spayed in November. I'm searching this forum for any threads on aggression - I've already gotten some good tips and information. I appreciate this place SO much! |
The kennel might be awsome and are doing nothing wrong but your little ones could be frightened by the whole experience. When Yorkies are fearful instead of hiding they will challenge anything and become more aggressive in some situations. I have a 4#er that will take on the biggest dog in the world. I can never let him down around large dogs because he would be a snack to them. Good luck and just keep watching...it could be she is going through her terrible two's. :p |
