Woah. 2 Attachment(s) I just ran into this on a website. They let the little Yorkies kill a 4-foot snake? Am I crazy, or is this crazy? |
how can they possibly do that!?!? They're lucky the little guy didn't get hurt...:( |
Absolutely! It's absolutely true, I'm sure. Remember that while this breed may be in the Toy group w/ the AKC, it really is a TERRIER first. Bravo that working Yorkies still exist! A friend of mine has a female Yorkie in Japan that did the very same thing! She's a love to anyone and anything, but something about that snake being in her back yard got her fired up enough that she took action before the owner could do anything differently. Not to worry, it turned out to not be a poisonous snake. |

"But what if it was poisinous? And Yorkies really don't work much anymore like they were first bred to, so they aren't trained for things like that" Many Yorkies in the past weren't "trained" to work either, many breeders counted on their natural ability to do so. And "what if" if was poisonous? Hey, look, I'm not saying let your dog do it! But since it was done, BRAVO, now watch those two cuties more closely so it doesn't happen again! |
One more thing... As far as Yorkie not working like they used to... That's only because all too many people view them as TOYS and not real dogs. Yorkies are way to underestimated and under worked. A true Yorkshire TERRIER has that drive and desire (work ethic) to actually get off the lap and off the sofa, do something productive and still have that diversity to get back on that lap or sofa at the end of the night. Rather than staying there all day long. I believe in working my Yorkies and they thrive off of it. We all make a wonderful team and because of it they are well adjusted members of society! Work your Yorkie how you like. I personally choose Obedience, Schutzhund (yeah, you heard me correctly!) and Conformation (yes, it's a form of working too! It's hard to be keep looking so beautiful!). |
I'm all for giving dogs a job to do, any breed that is. I just think it's crazy to let your little bitty Yorkie mess around with a big snake and just sit and take pictures. I know I would be very concerned my dog would get injured, just because of sheer size differences, and because of how dangerous snakes are. |
Again, I don't encourage a Yorkie fighting a snake off, but also it's nice to know that they weren't afraid to take action. Like my signature says: Big things come in small packages, and I'm referring to the Yorkshire TERRIER! Fabulous little dogs and it's because of this tenacity/sweetness and their stature that I love them so much. A very well balanced breed indeed when bred properly. Don't let your furbabies fight off snakes, if they do, "Good job" and now watch them more closely to avoid it from happening again!! :D |
I'm sure it's not poisonous, that would be very irresponsible of the owner and I'm sure that person loves their Yorkies as much as we do and wouldn't let anything happen to them, I could be wrong, but I try to assume the best about people, not the worst. At least its safe to say that's probably the most fun those two have had in a long time! See how proud he is! :D |
Kirby's Dad lol, you're absolutely right! :aimeeyork :D "You go little ones!" He's doing all he can just to carry the darn thing! lol ...now don't let it happen again. :p |
i heard yorkie were orginally bred to kill rats. so i wanna teach my yorkie to catch/kill mice in my apt. i live on 2nd floor and we do alot of cooking. |
You probably won't have to 'teach' it, I'm sure it'll go nuts trying to catch them. But I would be concerned about the diseases that mice may carry. |
I have Aggie "work" for her meals. :D :D I'd give her commands or teach her new tricks. She seems to enjoy it. I told my mom since we have to work for our food, she'd have to too. :doghop: :doghop: |
Im sure I saw that web site before isnt that the guy that breeds all those yorkies they live on a farm,I could be wrong. |
Is This True Or Is It Just A Stuff Animal??? |
