Potty ??? With a new puppy due soon we decided we needed a better outdoor area than we currently have for Jack. So we fenced in a cement area that is surrounded by shrubs. Here is the problem. Jack will go out there and do his #2 duty just fine but refuses to do his #1 duty. Is it too much to ask of a male dog to do his #1 duty on cement? He does lift his leg so we thought the bushes would work but so far no success. When I know he has gotta go, I can only keep him on the cement for so long because I know his little bladder is ready burst. Although we live in the city, our yard is heavily wooded and we have fear of wildlife predators. Fencing in the yard is not an option. Any suggestions? :aimeeyork |
Is the area big enough to put a big flower pot in it? Mine do have a big backyard and lots of shrubs but they certainly love to pee on my flower pots. When you are watering what ever plant you put in it you can just wash off the cement. ;) |
I'm wondering if the concrete will be too hot in the summer - or is there plenty of shade? I agree about the flower pot - Rowdy pees on mine everytime we go out front. I'm also wondering if you can build a planter box (maybe six inches high) with a landscape timber (maybe 2 foot high) standing in it - this is how my mailbox looks - the timber is in the ground (mailbox on top). I put a planter box around it about 6 inches high and EVERYTIME we go out front - Rowdy pees on the mailbox pole. It also would give him some dirt or grass (if you planted it) to pee in or on. |
You've got a couple of options. It may be possible to get your kid to pee on something that was already peed on by another dog. Can you catch the urine of another dog (or even his) and pour it where you want him to go, or maybe even take this pot or....if there's dirt somewhere or a hole in your concrete where you can put a wooden rod sticking out of the ground...and have another dog just pee on it? There are many other options, but this is certainly one of the fastest. Oh, and typically it doesn't matter if dogs are neutered or not, he'll most likely smell the urine, need to go and just hike his leg (since he's already doing it) even if you don't consider it "marking". PM me if you want a few other options and someone doesn't already post something appealing to you. |
