please help! worms! my coco went to the vet yesterday because i found a worm in his stool.gross! and the vet said that he probably caught them(round worms) from eating grass. because there are eggs on the grass. so anyway he gave him half a pill because he's tiny and sent us on our way. but i do know that humans can catch it too and this is freaking me out! they said to make sure to always wash our hands especially after handling him. but i'm still worried about this. so i guess my question is this 1) how easy is it to contract worms from your dog? 2)should i not handle him at all until this goes away?3) can we contract this from him giving us kisses? 4)how common is this in our breed? please help i'm going nuttts! |
Roundworms Our little Sailor went for last set of puppy shots and was found to have "a few signs" of roundworms.....we were very, very surprised as she showed no signs. The vet gave her some liquid medicine that she took once a day for three straight days. We took her back the next week and they checked again and found her clear. Our pups take walks daily and we have the same concerns.....we would like to make sure we do not contact anything from the pups. We are not able to answer your questions, but we would like to hear the answers too!! |
my little Oreo had worms when we first got him, this is how he almost died! round worms are contagious.. but humans will only get them if you literally ingest his poop  but do wash your hands to prevent anything.. you know just to be safe. oreo had both round worms and tape worms.. soo i know about worms! not fun! to answer your questions. no you don't have to stop holding him, kissing him won't make you get it unless he's eating his poop. and keep him away from the grass for now :) |
worms If it was easy for humans to get dog worms, I would be full of them..honestly! I have had 100's through my home, grooming, boarding over the years..my kids never caught anything. I think dog slobber prevents most diseases.LOL |
Thank God! My butt was itching just thinking about worms!!!!!! :D |

omg that was hilarious!! :p :D |
good to know that i can't catch it by handling him. it would be so hard not to because he's so cute and he loves to be held. hopefully this one dose will make it go away. one thing i know for sure is he won't be eating any grass! |
That was TOOOOO funny! Bitsy had worms about six months ago. She had no signs and we keep our dogs inside most of the time and I am overly paranoid about keeping them clean. We were doing our nighttime bed rituals and I had just laid down and Bitsy crawled on top of my chest for petting and loving like she usually does, and she turned her butt to my face which didn't bother me cause she's always so clean, and I was petting her........ low and behold, about two inches in front of my face, I saw worms crawling out of her butt and some were stuck in her fur and WIGGLING!!! That's how I found out she had worms  Needless to say, I flipped out and took her to the vet the next day for medicine, and had to wash and sterelize everything!!! I worried too that I would get worms! I was paranoid for days!!! Vet said she ingested a flea and that's how she got them. I had no idea that's how they get them. We had been bringing our outside cat inside previously because the weather was really cold and I felt sorry for him, but after that, the cat hasn't been allowed inside since. |
I remember picking dead worms off of Scruffy's rear end when we got him wormed after he had been in the shelter! The things we do for these babies! That was years ago and it still creeps me out! Is that TMI? |
My puppy had roundworms and one thing the vet said was to keep the poop picked up immediately after the dog goes because it can infect the ground. He also said that sun will kill the worms and eggs, but freezing cold doesn't. Go figure. He also said that puppies get roundworms from being passed on from the mother, so if one puppy in a litter has roundworms, the rest of the litter should also be treated. I hope your little guy is free of the worms with the one dose. I had to give Maddie medicine every two weeks for a total of 6 doses...it was liquid and she thought it was a treat because it tasted so good. |

Anyway, we wrapped up Rochester's butt and took him to the vet the next day. The "rice" we had been picking off his fur had been segments of worms all along. |
