Hello and welcome to YT! :) I'm afraid I don't know too much but I have read elsewhere that thin hair could mean a thyroid problem so check this out with your vet. In terms of his size and again from what I've read, his weight now at eight month's is pretty much is grown weight give or take half a pound or a pound. So you're probably looking at 4 or 4 1/2 at the very most. Hope that helps and please try post pics of your baby if and when you can. It'd be lovely to see him Annie x |
Yorkies coats can vary quite a bit. I have two. One is very straight and thin...he's 11 months old. His fur is very pretty when freshly brushed but gets pretty stringy. My other one is thicker and wavy but still was never fluffy like some pics you see posted. Actually some of the more fluffy ones are actually cottony coats and not so great. Your little one will still probably change a bit over time. If hes 3 1/2 lbs at 8 months he probably won't grow much more. maybe another pound or twe depending on how thin he is. Frame wise he is probably about done. |
Here's what I used to help the thin hair problem! I love Missing Link supplement. But be careful about the ingredients list. If your pup has alergies, you may want to ask your vet about using this. Here's a thread with my research notes. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35547 |
Fine ceeby has always had greasy stringy looking hair. he is now eight months almost nine months old. He has beautiful "fine" (not stringy) silky hair of meduim steel blue and silver. I think your puppy probably has a silky coat like Ceeby. |
SugarsMom - My pup also had oily, thin, totally uncombable hair as a pup. He's almost 9 months old now and his hair has changed to a beautifly silky/wavy, silver/tan color. The hair he has now is much thicker (especially appears even more thick because it's wavy), and never never tangles or matts at all. I wouldn't trade his coat for a million dollars ---well maybe for a million $$$$ I would. So - there is always hope! Carol Jean |
Same prob I actually have the same problem that you do so I am so glad you posted this. I just wanted to thank you for posting because there are great replies here...Thanks again............Sorry I couldn't help, but you helped me and everyone that responded espeacially helped...... |
Have you had your pup trimmed? My wee girl had the greasiest, cottony coat, which alays looked terrible about 5 minutes after a brush. I got her trimmed at 5 months and her coat underneath is beautifully silky and shiny! She is growing out looking beautiful. |
:wavey: :welcome4: Welcome to YT!!! Did you take him to the groomers yet? He might just need a trim. Yorkies have a puppy coat, and then get their Adult coat. We use C&C for Princess's coat. Can you post some pictures so we can see? Again! Welcome!!!! :) :) :) |
you may just have a cotton coat baby. posting pics would help us determine!! and welcome to YT!!!!! |
My Mammon is the same! He's so scragaly looking and always looks so unkept, even though I wash him twice a week. Make sure you brush your little one EVERYDAY! I went on vacation for a few days and the woman I left him with didn't brush him at all. He came back with the most knotted dreds! After i spent more than an hour untangling and brushing, he lost so much of his hair. I purchased a second one, this one with a full fluffy coat, and I noticed that only one of the pups had a thin coat. Maybe it's kind of a defect. But I honestly think it just makes him look different than most Yorkies I've seen, and a little cuter. |
Welcome to YT. Im also a New Yorker. Can't wait to see pics of your pup. I really dont know about coats, but I heard Missing link supplement is good and you need to feed them a premiun food. Regarding the weight I think your pup has reach his adult weight, he can gain a bit aprox to 4 or 4 1/2lbs. I hope you like YT as much as we all do. |
