Beautiful coat - Genetics/Diet?? I was wondering - what is the primary factor in the quality of the coat? Is it mostly genetics? How much of a role does diet play? I understand there are the different types of coats - cottony/silky/wiry; are some types more full/plush than others? Thanks! |

I would love to hear more opinions on this. |
It's genetic .....but a good diet helps the coat too... :D Queen Lily :aimeeyork & Mommy Lene :animal-pa |
I agree on genetics..... as my yorkies both eat one of the very best foods but one has a awesome, fast growing coat, the other much slower. |
Yorkie4Me -- I agree with you 100%. The type of hair that a little Yorkie has is - I'm going to say "entirely genetic." BUT - of course, all things being equal - even we have nicer hair if we take good care of it. It certainly seems to be the ones who have the little Yorkies with difficult to manage hair that are on the search for products to make it better and more manageable. My Yorkie isn't perfect - but he does have beautiful hair. And - I do nothing, but shampoo him occasionally with a somewhat "generic dog shampoo." (I can't even tell you what kind.) And - his hair never tangles or matts, and it actually glows when lights shine on it. Lucky me! Carol Jean |

coat Nothing will turn a cotton, wiry, soft coat into a silk one..they are born that way...they are genetically programmed to be silk, cotton, wiry... good diet/good grooming will make most any coat better. Poor diet/poor grooming can surely wreck a silk coat.. |
