Male "hygiene" issues - help... Hi all - I haven't posted in so long - I'm packing for a move to Phoenix - whew, busy. My Wylie (10 mos. old now, will be neutered in Phnx.) is now lifting his leg to potty and I'm finding the sides of his hair are becoming very "crusty" from his to mark his territory every few feet on our walks. I already trim his belly but don't want to trim all his side-fur off. However, it really hurts him to have these side-sections brushed out bc the pee-stuff becomes rather sticky. Has anyone else had this issue? Btw, does anyone have a yorkie in Phnx.-type weather? Do they stay cool enough with their thicker fur? Thanks for any help. Ann |
I have a male,, and I keep his direct pee area trimmed, its easier, and cleaner, I would just trim the problem area or get one of those micro trimmers. |
All my 3 Yorkies have long hair , They don't seems to bothered by the summer weather . When it is very hot , they are panting as short haired dogs do . My breeder told me that it is just a question of preferrence of the owners . Some like a Yorkie with long hair , some like to have them trimmed because they don't have to take care of a long coat . |
Actually long coated dogs are more protected from the heat or cold with the long cold, that's nature's misterious ways:) Mojo has his belly trimmed every 2 weeks, i keep it very short...also every 3 days i wash his "pee area" with a damp cloth and a bit of shampoo...i also wipe it almost daily, before bed, with bath wipes or regular baby wipes. Hope it helped... |
I don't have a boy, but I do wipe my girls' areas after they do their business, with a baby wipe - keeps anything from becoming too nasty ;) |
I have both! I have both a male and a female in fact I just took them to the Groomers this morning. I have what's called a "Sanitary Shave" their private parts, my male has a long coat and my female is only 8 weeks so she has a puppy coat. I have both of them shaved about every 2 weeks and I do use Baby wipes every day as needed. It's important to wash them daily and I do try to brush him twice a day. That keeps his coat cleaner too! :p |
You can try wiping after every pee with a damp cloth, if that doesn't work, there might not be any other choices but to trim the coat around the area... |
