For those who have a male/female together Hi! Wanted to check with those who have or have had a female and a male yorkie in the house together as pets. Not looking for info on breeding really, just wanted to know what your experiences has been with having one of each sex. Do they get along? Do they play together? Do they fight? etc... thanks! |
I have 5 of each and each one has a different personality. I find the boys more cuddly with me than the girls but the girls are my big defenders. I know other members girl are snuggle bunnies. Mine get along, play and fight... :p |
I have a male and a female. They are 1 month apart in age and are spayed and neutered. They get along great. They play really well together. They dont get in mean fights but they play fight. I dont have any humping problems form either of them. |
Mine are best friends! :D |
My females and males get along, but the females sometimes have jealousy fits and I have to separate them until they calm down. Also, my neutered male shows no unusual interest in the females, but the unneutered male does a sniff test from time to time to see if they are "in season". |
I have one of each and have no problems. They play well together. Both like to cuddle. Both are mom's babies. |
I have a 4 yr old boy and a yr old girl. He was, and still is very put out that I have brought another dog in. On occasion he will play with her but she doesn't try to engage him to play anymore. I guess she got snubbed once too often. She now looks to us for entertainment and plays with him only when he initiates it. Others I know have had no problems, I just have a wierd snotty little boy. |
I should add he never fights with her tho, just ignores her. |
Mine play together! Gracie cleans Rebel's face and Rebel runs circles around her. They're hilarious! |
I have a boy, Tiger, and a girl, Rhapsody. They get along awesome -- best friends! Sleep and play together. . . also eat from the same bowl together. My Tiger cuddles constantly, and Rhapsody is the entertainer (she's constantly exploring and doing hilarious antics). |
Thanks so much guys! It sounds like for the most part, males and females get together!! I have a male pup and am thinking about getting a female for a playmate for him and me, too, of course!! Just wanted to see how the different sexes get along. Sounds like though, that I should get them fixed or that might cause problems?? |
If you never plan to get into breeding (uhoh did I say that word). Then yes you should. She will go into heat and probably 2 times a year. You may not be aware of it if you do not stay on top of it. Also males can become more aggresive with a female in season around. They could very easily mate with out your knowledge, especially if you leave them unattended. Just to make life easier and safer for all, if you have no plans to breed then yes. But this is just one person opinion. |
I had a female for a year before I got my male (both fixed). I was originally going to get another female, but through researching and talking to breeders I was informed that different sexes will get along better then the same. Males tend to fight from being territorial and girls will get more of an "attitude". Theyalso said that 2 of the same sexes wont bond as much as opposite ones. My babies do play together well....so I would recommend getting one of each! |

Inseperable!!!! I have a male that is 2 yrs. old, Artie. And I have a female Abigail that is 1 yr. old. They are inseperable, they never fight, they do everything together! Artie is very sweet and intelligent he understands commands in English, Japanese and Filipino (Tagalog, just in case there is anyone else out there from the Phillippines?). He is very Independent, but "Kissey", if you sneeze or cough, he will lick you to save your "Life", he hates getting dirty and even sitting in the Sun bothers him he would rather be clean and in the shade. She on the other hand will chase anything from a duck to a turtle, dig a hole to "China" and attack a sprinkler without a care or hesitation, she is a relentless hunter and guard dog outdoors, but indoors she's clingy, she always wants to be held and if she happens to kiss you? She has to really have missed you, your Lucky! Before I purchased her, I took Artie to Abigails Breeder's Home, I was very fortunate, they chose each other! :aimeeyork |
