New addition I currently have a male Yorkie. He's 5 months old and an ANGEL! He was so easy to train and I can count on one hand how many accidents he's had. We're about to bring a second yorkie into our home. Can anyone share any thoughts on this? I know to give them their own space and to do things seperatly with them so they bond to both the family and each other. I'm also aware that new puppies pick up bad habbits from the older dog, but thus far my little guy has shown no bad habbits. He "go's" where he's suppost to, doesn't bite the furniture, and is VERY calm. Mammon, our pup, is wee wee pad trained, and I'm trying to find out is the new pup will learn from him. Thanks so much! |
Hi Jess, welcome to YT :) Congratulations on your new baby! It sounds like your yorkie now is great and hopefully the puppy will learn from his big brother! |
Welcome to YT. You are lucky to have such a well behaved baby. |
Welcome to YT. Sounds like you have a keeper there. I guess there is no way to stop one from learning from the other one. Hopefully you'll get lucky again and have no problems. Maybe it wasn't luck maybe it was your training method. But just like children, they are all different. Since yours is just 5 months old, they should hit it off splendidly and each enjoy their new playmate. |
Thank you all for being so sweet! I was kinda freaking out that no one replied and I was sort of going into this blindly. We're on day two with our handsome 10 week old Bernie Williams 2 and so far (and I hope I don't jinx myself) our older yorkie has shown him where 2 potty. He's going on his own! The only problem I have is that they are at each other's throats. Does anyone have any imput on this? I know they have to establish which one is the head dog, but how long is this gonna take? |
You can help them establish who is dominant by always putting your older pup first. First out the door, first to feed, first with everything. The little one will eventually learn that he is #2. This method worked very well for us, and I'd say it took about a week for them to become comfortable with each other. Mine are 11 months apart, and are two peas in a pod now! :aimeeyork |
