Collars Hey Everyone, I have question about collars. I have a 3 month old Yorkie and every collar I have bought her is just too big. Does any one have any suggestions for what I can get her until she gets a little bigger. Thanks! :) |
I wouldn't use a collar to walk her....get her a harness. Collars are dangerous for their tracheas... her size, a cat harness may fit her! |

I have never used a collar. My sister's dog has a collapse trachea due to a collar. I use a harness. I bought my harness from cloak&dawggie. They have extra small. Not sure how much your baby weighs. But when I bought mine, she was 2 lbs 3 ounces. She is now a good 3 1/2 pounds at 4 months. |
Have you tried a harness for kitten ? |
I haven't tried a kitten harrness or at least I don't think I have. The harness I have was the smallest on they had at the store. She currently only weighs 1.6lbs. So she's a tiny little girl! |
lexi has a collar but it is only for her id tags, we used to buy collars and cut them down to size, we also used a ferret harness for a while bc she didn't fit into the cat harnesses...or you could just find someone who custom makes the harness/vest. we just got one from connie here at yt and we love it. good luck |
try a kitty harness. if that's still too big, try a rabbit harness. if you're still in the market for a collar, petsmart sells collars that's totally adjustable. there's no holes, you just tighten to the size you need. they're cheap too. i think the shortest one is like 6" in length and you can tighten to much less than that. |
Cali is 1.5 lbs and I got her collar from pet smart. It's the smallest they have, but it fits..you can also try cat collars, and I think they also have some for ferrets, but I could be mistaken :) |
Robin at Spoiled Yorkies, makes wonderful custom made step in harnesses. I have also used step in harnesses by upcountry. They have an extra small that is adjustable. |

PetCo/PetSmart have fabulous little ferret collars and harnesses that you might try. They also have a "puppy" line on collars that fluctuate between 6" to 8" and are SUPER cute! |
Try and look for 'step in harness' - Petsmart Sells them I PROMISE YOU it is the greatest harness ever! My dog wears one 24/7 and they are really comfortable. Nothing goes around the neck, so it is less pressure on the dogs. |
