Help with selecting new puppy Hello, I'm a new member. I don't have a Yorkie yet, but have been trying to educate myself before I get one. Saturday I visited with one breeder who has moms with show quality puppies and the puppies are priced accordingly. She also has a small female who is expecting puppies in a week or so. The Mom is AKC registered and the Dad is CKC registered. The breeder does not want to register the litter. She told me I could have one of these puppies for $500. I asked a lot of questions about the health of the parents etc. Do breeders sometimes not register their dogs and sell them for less money even though the parents are registered? Thanks, Mary |
If it were me I would find another breeder. For one it's hard to find a pup in a litter that is show quality..as much as we all would like to think every yorkie is they aren't..for two i would never buy from someone that doesn't register their dogs..and for 3 it's obvious that she is breeding more than one and to not register tells me she is doing it for the money..not to mention no one in their right mind sells show quality dogs for $500..because so much time money and effort is put in to their line to get one that is show quality. I would find another breeder just because if she is a backyard breeder you don't want to help support that.. |
Welcome to yorkietalk! If I were you, I would look for a different breeder! I dont understand why she is not registering them  |
Something sounds fishy there. I too would talk to other breeders and get more than one breeders input. If you dicide to go back to this one after you have looked around, that is one thing, but to just take one breeders word is not wise. It is very wise of you to educate yourself on the breed before buying. But you also need to shop around. |
Did you ask her why she doesn't want to register the litter? Even though I can't imagine why - she may have a reason that makes sense...... Anyway - asking why - would give you additional information. Carol Jean |
I would look for another breeder,as she sounds a bit odd, although i have heard of some breeders that dont register the pups as they dont want them to be used for breeding or showing. |
Something doesn't sound right. I can't imagine why she doesn't want to register them - it makes no sense. Even unpapered females can sell for more than $500.00 if they are 6 pounds or smaller. It might really be a good deal, but more than likely "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" |
I have 1 female that is AKC and my others are CKC and I register all of my litters CKC I can't figure out why she wouldn't reg them CKC will register the whole litter for FREE!! So I also think something is fishy like maybe they are not pure breeds |
Thank all of you so much for responding to my question. I have a feeling that Gloria Jean may be right. They may not be pure breeds. She is going to call me once the puppies are born. I will defiantly ask that question (if they are pure breeds and why she is not registering them). If they are not, is $500 too much to pay for a puppy that is not a pure breed? I have contacted other breeders in my area also to look at their pups. |
Welcome... :wavey: I am a Breeder here in California. I always register my litters. Having a CKC Sire,I might be mistaken. But I think she can only register the litter with CKC, I don't think AKC will accept them. Both parents have to be AKC registered, all mine are. Did she show the Pedigree of the parents to you? Go to the Breeders Talk Forum, all kinds of threads that can help with your questions. Also advice you probably haven't even thought of. GREAT!! Forum. |
