Yorkie Ears 1 Attachment(s) This is the new baby I'm getting in a few more days, I emailed the breeder to see if she would start taping the ears so they might be standing up when we get her. This is what she wrote."I actually tried taping her ears, but my other dogs were so obsessed with trying to pull it off I gave up because I did not want her to get hurt by the dogs pulling at her ears all the time. Mom's ears stand up, but dad's do not. I asked the vet about it and she said some yorkie's ears stand up and some don't ever stand up. She also said that if they are going to stand up they would do it on their own they wouldn't need taped, but who knows." I don't really want floppy ears but my husband is excited, he doesn't like pointy ears. Will taping make any ear stand up, or just some??? P.S. In the picture she just rolled in the dirt, that's why she looks like that  |

My breeder used some sort of glue instead of tape. Does look like she should remove some hair and that should help. |
ears It will be harder to get those bigger, heavier ears up...the breeder should shave them at least for you to start..once they are taped, I put Bitter Apple on them so the others leave them alone. If a flop ear is 100% out for you..I would rethink my buy..BUT if you are willing to work on them, they have a decent chance to stand IMO. If either parents have flops ears the chances are very reduced, but if both are up, that increases your chances.. PS..I saw the males ears are flopped..that is a big mistake to use a flop earred stud IMO..Sorry, I am having a very tell it like it is day!! |
What a little cutie. Mellies ear stood up on their own when she was about 16 weeks. I had the hair on her ears trimmed and that seemed to do it. |
2 Attachment(s) Logan was almost 6 months old when both of ears started standing up all the time. We never taped or trimmed and they did go up and they were very big. Here are pictures of him as a puppy and now. |

my Tyson has big ears & kind of reminds me of your dog. His ears are floppy & big & I love the look-they have started to lift but not much. I love him with his floppied eared self. Some dogs hace bigger ears that will not stand up |
I wanted a yorkie with ears up! When i got Pippa she was 10 weeks old and her ears were down but when she turned 12 weeks ..ping.. they went up....but when i look back at photos i think she looks cuter with ears down. Ears up? ears down? She is beautiful and will give you years of pleasure either way :D |
Trying shaving the ears. As a Breeder, all my puppies ears stand up. If the ears are hairy, and fat. Support with tape, if the other dogs won't let the tape stay. Shave the ears until they are strong. Most of the time that will work, it will take a few weeks also. Good luck, check out the Breeder Talk Forum, there is a thread that has a link to taping and shaving the ears. |
I had someone tell me to give the dogs a little cottage cheese around the time they start losing teeth to give them enough calcium for the new teeth and to make the cartilage in the ears strong ?? Fact or Fiction?? |
Not sure???????   I only feed dog food to my dogs, not people food. |
shaving & taping -always works for me. |
How long to leave the tape on? |
2 Attachment(s) Two of mine have big ears that I had to shave and tape. I also fed mine yogurt once a day for months. I tried cottage cheese, but mine didn't really like it. When I taped the ears I left the tape on for at least 4 days but never more than 6, removed the tape, waited 2-3 days then taped again if needed. I just used 2 inch masking tape cut into 2 inch squares. One in the front then one in the back (the ear flat in the middle) If the tape weighs the ears down farther on her head, you can use another strip of tape to bridge the two ears together. Also, massaging their ears is very helpful also. Here is a picture of them when their ears were taped and how they look now. Check out those ears!!! :p |
