Help please...again Ok, SO Bridget this mornig was diagnosed with very low calcium in her blood, she is as I type this at the vets getting iv fluids to bring them back up. Her puppies are 4 weeks old, any suggestions, I had barely started them on gruel, will they be ok now that mom can no longer nurse??? Advice is appriecated |
maybe you could post on the breeder section and they could help you. |
Poor baby... Do a search for eclampsia. There is a lot of good information shared by some of the breeders that post here. Since I don't breed, I certainly am no authority, but I think a high calcium diet is a big help. Elegntorchid's idea of posting in the breeder's section is good, too. Your post might get lost here in General Discussion. There are a lot of breeders who post here and are generous with their experience and advice. Good luck, I hope your baby is safely home soon... |
Marlee - You are seeing the vet right now with the mother dog??? Have you asked the vet these questions - what did he say? Carol Jean |
I am at a loss, Well I was very lucky, when I noticed Bridget acting weird this morning I called and got her in the vet right away. Turns out her calcium was way low, around a 4-5, they put her on iv fluids and calcium to help her and a few hours later I was able to bring her home. Now I have four puppies that have to be seperated from momma, they are lucky 4 weeks old, but still they are crying a lot. Bridget wants in to them so bad she is sleeping by the cage (playyard) I just dont know what to do for the pups, I did start to feed them gruel yesterday, but will they eat enough, the bottles suck, and I cannot get them to work..suggestions? Will they be ok without mom? |
You can give them the gruel mix it with formula plus on top of that pour some formula in a bowl and see if they will drink it. You should give them the formula about four or five times a day plus give them the gruel. Just keep an eye on them and they should be ok. |
oh and i forgot keep fresh water available to them as well. |
