Male traits My Jaci 4 mo has started this humping business he does it to my legs and if he is on the sofa with me to my arms. I am a new Yorkie owner and dont really know much about the male traits and when they start doing this. Is he really doing this or just playing? When do they start? And when can I get him fixed? And should I tell him NO! when he does this? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but like I said I am new to all of this. Thanks! |

No stupid questions!!! Yes, males exhibit this manly trait at an early age. It's instinct. You should follow the advice of your vet on neutering but they can do it at around 6 months if the dog is of healthy weight and of good health. |

My male would hump his teddybear untill I had him neutered then he stopped completely |

He may be doing this beacuse he is now older, and then again he could be just excited and playing. My male has never humped and hes been with a female. |

Yes, it's normal for males to start this at that age. Talk to your vet. Some recommend neutering as soon as they start this, others recommend waiting till they are a bit older. See what your vet has to say. |

my yorkie didn't start to hump legs and arms until recently, 2 months AFTER his neutering. i think it's probably a dominance thing and tells him STOP or NO when he tries and he'll back off. |

Males and females both do this --- and - neutered and spayed dogs also do it. It's not a sexual thing - It is a dominance - ranking - nonsexual - play behavior. Whatever! The important thing is that it is not a desired activity for a little puppy or any dog to do. Stop it every time you see it happening. It's a "No no." Tell your dog, "No," - move him - distract him - and stop him from doing it. If he has any toys that he likes to hump - take them away from him. Some people think it's cute! It's not! Good luck with your little humper. I've gone through this with all my dogs. One was in love with a stuffed dog - the other was having a love affair with a stuffed rabbit. And, now my new little Yorkie pup loves my other dog. There's no end. I just tell my pup "No no" - move him - and get him doing something else. He could care less! But there's a lot less humping going on. Carol Jean |
