Still not sure if I understand this.... I'm very curious why some yorkie puppies are very fluffy and some have short straight hair. ? Is one the right way it's suppose to be ? I think I read in this "Selecting your Yorkshire terrier book that the hair shouldnt be fluffy ..or do I have it backwards? Or does it even matter ? Thanks ~Chellie~ |
fluffy Bella's hair is fluffy, well it wasn't yesterday LOL but she got her first bath since we got her Friday and it's fluffy now!!! Not sure which is better, but we would love Bella is her hair was straight or fluffy |
Bella I have a Bella too..Well no , I dont HAVE her yet but I will in about 23 days ..Cant wait. Yes I will love love my two new babies with out a doubt. I just have been researching yorkies so much now and just have began to notice how different yorkies seem you to be even as puppies.I have seen some at 14 weeks that are very fluffy and look like little hairballs. Then I seen others that have the short very straight hair . So I'm just curious because I see there are some very informed people on here and I would love to understand.. Sorry ..I started to ramble..so my question is is fluffy (thin) hair as a puppy what a breeder wants in the litter or are they striving for the thick more straight hair? Thanks :) |
experianced breeders..???? pushing this back up..any experiance breeders have any info ? |
My pups have two different types of hair. One is real thick and cottony more difficult to brush through. The other is more silky and you can brush through it more easily. The one with the cottony coat is not the desired silky coat. I don't know if their coat can still change to silky as they become adults and their coats change though. |

To be honest,unless you´re going to show or breed..it doesnt matter at all:) They say that the pups with the thick fluffy coats will end up with the cotton coat,and the pups with the thin straight hair will end up with the desired silky coat.In my case,Jess had an awful coarse coat as a puppy,I would say it was even stiff,it took ages to grow,I even lost hope in her having a long coat because her hair was very short and stubby..but now at a year old her coat is wonderful.Its very silky and the comb goes through it like a hot knife through butter..she went through an awful ugly ducking stage before getting the coat she has now though.Ladys hair was thin as a baby and its thin now,its silky too and just as easy to comb,her hair hasnt changed much at all and she is 17 months old. Iv seen yorkies with curly coats,thick coats,long coats,short coats,slow growing coats,coarse coats,silk coats..etc,to me they are all cute:) |
