How many breeders separate their pets from their breeders. Do those of you who have more than one dog for breeding, separate your pets from your breeders, or are they all pets. I'm not a breeder yet, but I believe mine would all be pets, and I would grieve the loss of any of them. |
I am not a breeder, but I could not imagine keeping the ones I breed separate from my pets. I would imagine it would be difficult for anyone who loves their animals. |
We used to breed and show our German Shepherds, and they were also all pets and part of the family. Even when we had puppies, we played with all of them and loved and socialized them.We always felt it made them better pets or even working dogs when they left us. We bred for temperment first and foremost, even guaranteed temperment in our purchase contracts. And the only way to do that was to live with the dogs, not keep them in a kennel with minimal human contact. |
Thank goodness Yorkies and Biewers are small cause they all live in the house with us. I cannot imagine it any other way although sometimes, I feel like they have us outnumbered!!!!!! |
All of mine live in the house with us but i'm starting to think if i get anymore me and my doggies will all be outside lol..hubby would rather they not be |

All are precious family members and there is nothing more fun than watching the sofa burp out yorkies when you say "who wants a cheerio?" |
One big family here!! No separation needed, only the females when they are in the second week out from delivery they separated then they are introduced into my mig shift nursery area. This is their time to just relax and be pampered even more... :p |
1 Attachment(s) Here's how we live...oh, 1 was missing(Livvie)..she was on the couch with daddy..she was in heat... |

I GOT A GREAT MENTAL PICTURE OF THAT ! :D :D :D :D wow Irene - what a picture that is  and Sue....I know your babies are pampered and spoiled ...I can just imagine your nursery...I bet the girls love it :) |
Ours...being my one and the one I share custody of, and the other 2...are all pets. Of course, between 2 houses, we only have 4, so it's different from us. I just think it is important that each dog...stock or pet...be given proper amounts of socialization. If they have to be separated to avoid "accidents," that's part of the game...you just have to realize there are right and wrong ways of going about doing it. I think that is one of the things that separate ethical breeders from scum. |
OMG, love that pic! So cute. Quote:
