Parker will not use the wee pads Ok, I've read all the threads about wee pads and they seem to work for everyone. Parker will not use them. He would rather use a football rug or a hello kitty rug in my daughters room. I'm so sick of washing them that I finally took them up. I take him outside and he goes, but he is still having quite a few accidents in the house. Any suggestions. I would love to have a wee pad in case of any emergency. How do I get him to use them. Thanks for all your help!!!! |
You need to confine him to smaller areas and on hard floors like the kitchen. I put them where Ollie would go, now she hits them most of the time. He should not e allowed to wander the entire house. |
I agreed, I think he is not ready to have full access to the house yet. Keep him a in a playpen with his pee pads, or in a room where you can keep track of him. If you see him pottying in the wrong place take him to the pad or outside. Another option is to get belly bands for him. I heard they work wonders. Good luck. |
I agree with confining him to a smaller area, but one thing that I found that totally worked with Topher was big time praise. Each time he peed on the pee pad we hooted and hollered, told him he was a good boy over and over again and gave him a 'cookie' (treat). It only took a day or so for him to dial in that doing it on the pee pad was a good thing!! You can't take your eyes off your pup for those first few days while training cause you have to catch them while they're doing the right thing or they won't have a clue what you're getting excited about! :) Topher is a riot now...if I miss the fact that he pees on the pad, he comes over to me all excited with this little dance he does...like he's telling me 'look what I did, mom!' and he waits for his cookie. They're pretty smart little things and LOVE to please!! |
yeah pretty much what everyone said, just have patients and train repetative and lots of treats and love when they do pee on the pad. don't let him wander around the house till he is fully trained. |
i guess maybe that was my problem. I keep in in a crate when we are not there or when we are busy, otherwise i take him outside to potty. I do let him roam around the house. I try to watch every minutes but its impossible with such a big area. I'll try confining him. I tried the play pen thing, he is such a climber and climbed right to the top and about fell out of it, so I took it down. |
we get a spray from simple solutions sold at petsmart. i spray it on the wee wee pad and he pees right on it. it's like he can't resist it. |
i did what you guys said and Parker used his pee pad...... yea yea yea yea!!!!!!! He even used it would outside of his confined area!!! Wow... Thanks for the advice. I guess I just wasnt doing it right. Hopefully he will continue. |
Congratulations to Parker!! What a smart pup to catch on so quickly!! How fast they learn when there's treats involved!! lol Don't worry if he has the odd time when he misses the pad...when he sees that he doesn't get a treat, or praise, he'll realize that the pee pad is what he should be using. Topher used to slip up from time to time (that has happened less and less). I didn't get angry, I just didn't give him his rewards, of course, and boy...he sure realized that doing the right thing was much more fun for him!! |
