I've got a climber - help! I've got a climber - help! I have got a 4 month old yorkie who I keep in an X-Pen during the day while I am at work. I usually come home to let him out on my lunch break or my husband does. Well today I came home and he was out of his X-pen just sitting on my sofa like a little rebel. I am wondering how he did this? He would have had to climb - he could not possibly have done it any other way. Does any one elses Yorkie seem to get out of thier X-Pen when they are gone? My house is pretty puppy proof and all tile and wood floors so I am really more concerned with him hurting himself than my house. I thought it was pretty funny when I came home and he was just sitting up there like king of the sofa. All his toys were out of the basket too so it looked like he was having quiet a good time. :) |
LOL! Sorry its just so funny! I dont know how they do it but I know that they have some kind of lid that you can buy to put over the x-pens! Maybe that would help! |
That is so funny! He probably had a blast! Cali is almost 10 months old and still hasn;t figured out how to get out of her play pen. I keep waiting for the day! |
Logan was the same age when he figured out how to get out of his playpen (a person's pack'n'play). He was staying at my mom's house and I think her dog talked him into it. We fixed the problem by stretching a fitted crib sheet over the top and we haven't had a problem sense. |
DUH - now why did I not think of a top - I mean seriously what is wrong with me - lol! I guess I was just so amazed he did it and still laughing at his look when I came home and he was just sitting on the sofa like he owned the place. Thanks guys! |

Mom's away, It's party time!!!! You might want to get that top! :) |
LOL...Some yorkies are MONKEYS....and they do have tops for X pens....if he's already climbing then sounds like you need one.... and if you think he'll get over his 'climbing urges' ...go see Cheri - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...t=37139&page=1 :D :D she was the same way as a puppy...she climbed on things Chanel never dreamed of :) and I BET he had a great time with his freedom...cute story  |
I posted a thread this morning about my Dezi. Dezi is also a climber, she climbed out of the gate. I now have to put two gates. I think is so funny! :animal-pa |
 too funny, I just recently got Alphy and have the same problem. Plus I keep finding him on my kitchen table. He's stealthy...like a cat. According to Linda, the breeder, he's like his mama. :D |
I guess you need that top for your xpen. Someone posted a while beck a video of a puppy climbing a gate, now I cant find it. That video was so cute and incredible. I guess Im lucky that Gucci has never climb up the gate. |
i dont remember who, but someone's yorkie would walk through the x-pen! it was such a cute video. is your x-pen's hole big enough for your yorkie to slip through? other than that, get the top! |
Aww, I bet he was so proud of himself! haha I would suggest a top, too..or maybe tie on a blanket for the time being?? |
I'll see is I cant find my old post about Pixies climbing adventures..... |
My old post This is my old post: :p This I can give solid advice on! Pixie was 2pounds and 4 ozs when I brought her home. I had a 24 inch Precision Black Powdercoat X-Pen. it was nice. Matched the room and everything! Well, my sweet little Pixie learned how to climb out of it in a matter of 4 days! I was stunned to come home and find her running free! Free to chew the powercords! Free to eat the plants! Free to get into God only knows what dangers my house contains. I was freaked out! I thought it was a fluke... so I put her back in and sure enough, I watched with my own eyes! She climbed right up and over! So I took it back and exchanged it for the 36 inch. That took a few days... but little miss moutian climber mastered that one too! I was so embarresed when I showed up back at the pet store with my TINY DOG and my HUGE GATE for yet another return. The manager laughed and said that he had to give her credit! She was some dog! I ended up going with a Precision crate. The BIG one, you know the kind you get for Mastiffs and Great Danes. That is her play yard now. It has a top! And a nice thick plastic pan that I can wash off, it saves the carpet! And I never have to worry about her getting out ever again! It has two doors so it is easy to clean out! It also folds down and is portable like the gate was, It even has a handle. And if you compare the amount of play space... the crate has 1 square foot less than the pen did.... a fair trade for the peace of mind I'd say! And it was like 90 bucks online at petco.com with free shipping. Her Yorkie sized crate fits right inside it! And her pee pad and food and water and toys. Am I saying you have to get a crate? NO.... but I am saying... Dont underestimate your Yorkie! Go for the bigger one! __________________ SO IS THIS! ok.... your going to laugh and I wish I had gotton a picture of it.... My husband thought that he was going to outsmart this little beast. He got a refridge box and cut it to fit the top of the 36 inch X-Pen. He poked holes every six inches and used cable ties to attach it to the top of the pen. He stood back and looked at his work and grinned like the coyote from that cartoon... the one with the road runner. Well he thought for sure that he would come home that afternoon for lunch and find a defeated Pixie sulking in her X-Pen..... Instead, he walked in the front door and looked up the stairs only to see Pixies smug little mug shaking with excitment! It was like.... Daddy's home!!!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Didn't Work!!!!!!! So put those ties close together! lol I'm not trying to scare you..... But honestly, Pixie gave us heart attacks everyday for two weeks straight! One bite into a powercord and she would have been toast! I can't even stand the thought! She is worse than having my human children... she gets into so much more... |
