Outdoor Safety Reminder This weekend was so beautiful Mac and Mellie spent most of their time outside after being cooped up inside all winter. It took about 3 seconds for Mellie to find new low spots along the fence that she could crawl under. :omg: I think I had to remind the kids to keep the gate closed about 4,ooo times. Mac decided he wanted to go fishing in the pond even though it is not officially fishing season :D It is so easy for our little babies to get hurt or lost. I thought now would be a great time while doing our spring clean up to fix the low spots along the fence. Remember while the babies our out it only takes them 2 seconds to get under the fence out the gate so they need to be watched like hawks. Any other safety tips/reminders? |
Nice post !!!! I agree, and I'm getting the itch for spring/summer!!!! I want to go camping soooooooooooo bad!!!! |
I'm always on the lookout for large hawks in my area. You never know when one will swoop down on a little yorkie. Even though mine are 8lbs and 12lbs, I still worry. Especially those with small babies, can never be too careful. :) |
I agree. We had a new fence put in in November. Parker really hasnt got a change to explore. But he did when it got warm. He went under the fence into the neighboors yard. They have a bigger dog. He pushes the fence out at the bottom so Parker can go under. Dogs are so smart. My husband is going to have to put one wood timber around the whole bottom of our fence so that the dog cant push it out. Also. I have to watch for hawks too. |
I have just had to fix all the low spots and put edging around because Ella took a trip next door! :aimeeyork  She is obsessed with getting there now and the little kids next door would help her I think. A safety thread is a great idea though. I will try and think of more tips. :) |
thanks for the reminder! You really dont think of checking things like that! |
One reminder that may be helpful to new yorkie parents is to teach the pup to wait to get into a vehicle until helped in. My first yorkie (Higgins....RIP) was 5 yrs old and met an untimely death on a camping trip. It was getting dark and a girlfriend had gone to the car to get something out.....long story short, he was killed by the car door. Worst experience of my life, I promise you. I wish I would of thought about the possiblility of that happening and tried to prevent it. Preston sits and waits until i give him a boost in. We have to keep our babies safe. I'm LOVING this site btw. thanks |
