Noobie quetsion Hey guys, I pretty new to this site and I have a very stupid question. Me and my gf just bought a pup from a breeder and we are picking it up on thursday. I was just wondering what I should ask for, as for papers and such. I know I can ask for akc registration papers, proof that it has been de-wormed. What else should I be asking for. P.s. Ive read on the akc website somewhere that the dog should've had the 5 in1 or the 6 in 1 shot, or something like that, I can't quite remember. Thanks, Tony |
I really cant answer ya since i have nooo clue, but I just wanted to say WELCOME!! |
Congratulations on your new puppy. No question you have is stupid. Just ask the breeder what shots your puppy has had? I hope you know of a good vet you can take the puppy to right away. Just make sure that your vet realizes that this is a tiny dog and may not be able to tolerate all of its shots at once. I never thought of that, but luckily my vet did. Debbie is four now but only weighs three pounds. Her vet still has me bring her in for each shot she needs individually after her yearly checkup. It may be more time consuming but if there ever is a reaction, we will know what caused it. |
Well, we'll never learn if we don't ask! As far as what to ask...here's just a few... shot records, deworm schedule, AKC puppy papers. Does this breeder offer any type of health guarantee towards genetic illnesses...(liver shunts, luxating patellas?). These surgeries can be EXTREMELY expensive and on top of paying a high price for a yorkie, you could also have to pay additional $1,000-5,000 for these faults/illnesses. |

:wavey: Welcome to YT!!!! Congratulations on your new puppy!!!! There are no stupid questions. That's how we learn, if we don't ask, we will never know the answers. :) :) :) 72 hours is pretty short. I would make a call to the Vet and set up a puppy check up visit. Your Breeder should have shot records, (bring them to the Vet with you) And AKC papers for you to send in. What about a health guarante? Do you have one??? Are we a a girl or a boy? Do we have a name yet? We love pictures here, so get your camera ready too :D :D :D CAn't wait to hear more! Again, Welcome to our Family!!!! :2hearts2: |
If you know when you're going to get the baby, have an appointment set up already. Also, while you're at the vet's office, get a tube of Nutrical and give to the pup 2-3 times a day to keep the blood sugar up...otherwise, hypoglycemia and you definitely don't want that! |
You guys are the best. I don't even know how I would of gotten all this information elsewhere. The pup is a boy, and I will be posting pictures up soon, when I get my camera back from my friend. How come it seems like there is soo many different kinds of sickness a yorkie can have... makes me kind of scared. I just want this pup to live a healthy life. Ive been reading around the In Memory of..(R.I.P) forums, and see that some pups die within a month. Thats like my worst nightmare. Plus how would I know if a vet is good? Ive found a couple around my house, but I dont which one to bring it to. I'd like to bring the pup to the vet right away after I get it. p.s. ...txshopper73 thanks for the info |
Congrats! And Welcome to YT!! Quote:
Congrats on your first furson! You are just going to love this breed! I'm a little partial but my baby is just the greatest! Another thing to ask the breeder is... what food he may be on, some yorkies can be very picky and if the breeder has him on a good food and he is eating it you may want to stick to it. I feed Kloey "Royal Canin for Yorkshire Terriers" and I also give her Eukanuba wet food or some call it soft food, but I have her on a feeding schedule where I feed her 2 times a day and this seems to work really well for her. If the breeder is good, she will already have all this info down for you, hopefully she gives you a goody bag! Do you have a name picked out yet? This is so exciting for you and your G/F I bet! I just love puppies, but beware, they tend to be hard to potty train, but if your consecutive with his training, it will be a breeze! Good luck and please keep us updated! |
Well, looks like everyone has about covered the information, so I'll just say Welcome to YT, the place where you can obsess about your yorkie and no one thinks your crazy. |
I also wanted to welcome you to YT. Congratulations on the new addition. I think that everyone has given you great advise. :) |
