Hello I have a quick question about taking your puppies on trips with you. I got my puppy about 2 months ago and he is currently 4 months old. I had a previous trip planned before we got him and now the time has come for me to leave my little guy. I will be gone for 10 days and I am going to Hawaii to visit my sister and niece. My question is has anyone ever taken their puppy with them on a long flight like this? My flight will be about 11 hours both ways. I know when they are small enough to fit in a carry on you can carry them on but I have heard you can not take them out of the carry on bag at all during the flight or in the airplane or airports. I think I am going to just leave him at home with my husband since we both think this might be best for him at this age but I am just so depressed about leaving him - I think (no - I know) I am going to miss him more than my husband - ha, ha! Just wanted to know what you guys did when you took a trip or if anyone has flown with their furbaby before. Thanks!

I have taken Annie on trips with me before. New York to LA is her longest. She just sleeps in her bag for the most part. But all dogs are different. Some can't handle being in a bag for that long. But Annie is a little trooper :D She's been a little traveler since the day she arrived.

I noticed that you said that you were going to Hawaii. Unfortunately Hawaii has quarantine laws on pets. So you probably won't be able to take your puppy with you.

Oh you are right - i just checked into the laws for Hawaii and he would have to be Quarentined - NEVER MIND he will be staying at home with his daddy - i guess mommy will just have to miss him and see him when she returns. :-) Thanks for the info!

I've been looking around because I'm trying to find a cheap flight to go pick my Madie up asap & bring her back as an in cabin carry on.

Different airlines have different policies- you can find them on their web pages. Each flight limits the number of in cabin animals per class-

typically I've seen: first class/business 1 in each, economy- 2 per flight.

As soon as you have your flight #'s- :eyeballpc contact the airlines directly & reserve your pets. There is a fee varying by airline usually $50-120 each way for in cabin flights- most airlines charge $80 each way. A checked animal costs more. Service and rescue animals are free on some airlines.

:ip: Hawaii is considered a rabies free state & some airlines are no longer allowing pets to travel there unless_____. I did not read what the extra was but I seen this statement a few times- so I would recommend you find out if they want some sort of health certificate from your vet or if they will impose a quarantine on your baby. Health certificate's easy but the quarentine would be bad. It didn't apply to me- I'm going from Ca to Ne. So, I didn't read any further.
