My little possible hybrid Okay, so I have a new yorkie puppy (haven't thought of a name yet!). He's 15 weeks old and adorable! My question is, I obtained him through a "friend of a friend" and she claims he's a purebred Yorkie. I'm not convinced, however. I think he may be a Yorkiepoo which would be cool because I've always wanted one anyway. What makes me thing this is the fact that his fur is insanely curly. Not just a few waves here and there, I'm talking about full out shag curl that sticks straight out. It's nearly impossible to brush. His ears are rather large and I have not yet been able to get them to stand. He's also about 8lbs at 15 weeks and his head is pretty broad. I know yorkies can be larger set, though. Unfortunately I don't have a picture to post of him at the moment, but I'll try and post one tomorrow. I've looked up pictures on the internet and he still looks like a yorkie, but he also looks like a yorkiepoo. He has the same color as a yorkie, black/tan with silver starting on his head. I know it's probably too much to ask for you guys to give me an answer, but just curious on what your opinion might be. I still love the guy either way! |
I don't know how to tell if he is really a yorkipoo or not, but i wanted to congratulate you on getting the new baby to love. He does sound a bit big, and I can't wait to see pictures!!! |
It sounds like he's a Yorkiepoo or maybe a Yorkie mixed with something else. We can't really tell without pics. Yorkie hair is very straight though so it doesn't sound like he's a purebred. He sounds very cute though. As for the ears. Try shaving the tips of the ears and triming the rest of the ear to make the ear lighter. Good luck and I can't wait to see pics :) |
Roxi had very curly and thick hair when we first got her. I was a little worried too, but now that she is a little older it has went to completely straight. it has thinned out too. Maybe you should try taking her to the groomer and see if that helps. It did wonders for roxis doo!I will try to post a pic of her before and after groomer miracle! Here she is at 15 weeks old...see how she gets the curly greasy looking hair when she needs a bath. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34281 |

a neighbor down the street has one that looks very curly, i thought he may be mixed with something else. not sure though, his is curly like a poodle but colored like a yorkie..... |
Bella's fur (at 15) weeks is pretty curly. I usually wait a week before bathing, and by that time, it's super curly! She's AKC registered so I'm not sure if that's "proof" that's she's purebred, but I'm assuming it is. |

That is actually very close to what my new babies hair looks like. It's about that curly. I thought about maybe just having him cut down a little when the weather gets warmer because right now, his fur is definately unmanagable! Thanks everyone for the replies. The mystery may never be solved, but it's not really important. Looks like I'm just going to have a jogging buddy since he's so big! Oh, and I'll post pictures of him under the "My Yorkie" section as soon as I can! |
I know of a purebred Yorkie from a well-respected breeder who had VERY curly hair his whole life. He was the cutest thing, and besides the curly hair, he was a perfect little Yorkie. His name was Ted. Enjoy your little one :p |
Just wanted to say congrats on your new baby. Can't wait to see pics. |
I'm not familiar with all the characteristics of mixed yorkies...but to me babies are babies...Enjoy! |
1 Attachment(s) I have a yorkipoo, her name is Nelly, I will post a picture to see if this helps you determine anything. I do know Nelly has very big ears, I did tape them because as soon one would stand the other would fall so I taped them for a couple of days and they have been standing ever since. |
