Looking for a Protector Hello....Need a little advise....I am looking for a dog that will be a protector over my Yorkie, Chihuahua's and a Pomerainan. Don't know what breed or mixed breed would be the best. I have a large fenced in back yard, but when I leave for work or church I would like to have a bigger dog to guard these little ones, and also guard the house. Anyone out there that has a setup similiar and could advise would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this post. |
I know i'm over protective of my yorkies, i would never leave my girls outside unattended!! Maybe other people can give you advice on this :) I have a lab and 2 yorkies, but i can't expect my lab to be in charge of the girls when i go out. |
Even if you have a bigger dog it isnt going to help you if a hawk comes into your yard and gets one of your little dogs. We never leave our yorkies outside while we are gone. There are just too many bad things that can happen. |
I agree that I wouldn't leave them alone for extended periods of time, but we used to have a chow chow that was an excellent and loving guard dog for us and our Pivo. |
i wouldnt leave them outsside either and a bigger dog shouldnt be left alone with small dogs either but i would like to know what would be a good protector lets say like when you go for walks with your little ones and stuff like that |
I have a huge Alaskan Malamute in my backyard; however, the Yorkies have a separate side yard. Although the Malamute is very good with the Yorkies, I don't feel comfortable leaving them all together. Recently, I just brought home a new Yorkie and my Malamute is being too protective. He doesn't want my other Yorkies close to the baby and growls at them  . All play is supervised - it's just to easy to accidently hurt a small dog. |
i would never leave my yorkies outside to go ANYWHERE. heck, when mine are in the yard, I won't even run back into the house to get a cigerette to take outside to smoke,. |
