That site is disgusting! I have NO use for people that breed tinies to produce more tinies! They are greedy, money hungry monsters!!!!! :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown |
IMHO, for 3k-10k, i would expect at the very least: - documentation for all possible health/genetic tests of the parents - documentation for all possible health/genetic tests of the puppy - a lengthy if not lifetime guarantee against congential defects - papered registration from akc - documented pedigree - champions in pedigree - written guarantee of adult size (if i'm paying 10k for a 2 lb adult, i better be getting a puppy that will become a 2 lb adult) - written guarantee of dog conforming to breed standards - a nice puppy goodie package for the under 1k range, i wouldn't expect all that. it would be a crapshoot as far as how healthy and free of genetic defects, and how many tests were done of the parents as well as the puppy. some will fare well, some will not. |
:D for 10k, i want all that and the guarantee that it can do my laundry every week |
Take a look... I totally agree that the dog better be able to do a lot for that $10k including the laundry and taking care of my son. :) I have no problem paying for a quality dog but some folks have gone way above and beyond when selling a pet quality dog with no breeding rights. While there are a lot of reputable breeders out there...there are also a ton of dirt bags just in it for the buck and sadly couldn't care a whit about what is produced. Anyhow..I did notice on the site with the $10k puppy (which included S&H) that it made no mention of any genetic testing and they were willing to let their pups go from the age of 8 weeks (even willing to ship at that age no matter what the size of the dog). Said they get a small puppy pack and they had their first set of boosters. Nothing more. I will see if I can dig up the site again. I deleted a ton of bookmarked sites after I got Lex. The guarantee gave you a year on Congenital and it made no mention of lifetime support or the request of taking the dog to rehome in case of need. They also only gave 48 hours to get the dog checked once it left their facilities. |
Thanks for helping me Elegntorchid. I guess I didn't word it right. I am not trying to criticize you at all. Yes I got a standard size(he is prob a tad small right now tho. only 4.5 pounds) , healthy puppy, with papers, and a guarantee. If you read my first post I said that I didn't know anything about raising pups. I never said that you are ripping people off. I said that if you are charging 1500 per pup then as Elegntorchid said it is unrealistic to think you won't make money. I never said that was a bad thing at all. It seems as if you missed my point. For the record I didn't say or imply that I had any intentions of breeding my dog. I didn't buy him to breed him. I bought him to be a pet. A spoiled one at that. LOL |
AKC Standard When I was checking into getting a puppy and reading about Yorkies, one of the places I checked was the AKC website to see the characteristics of a "standard" yorkie and they stated the weight should be between 4 and 7 pounds. Can't something be done to shut down operations like this woman's website or not allow the puppies to be registered? |
your welcome emmsmom, i just didn't find your comments critical. i don't think they can refuse to register them as long as they are what they are suppose to be, especially that sometimes people get a smaller one without trying to, if they changed it those people would not be able to register their puppies. that would be bad for them. so i guess it is a no win situation. |
Sorry you guys, I did go back and reread the post, and you are right, I was the one that jumped the gun. I guess I am so tired of people saying that paying more than 1000 dollars is ridiculous. I would never chare more than fair market value, and I do give much more than average. WHen I bought Bridget I barely got a gaurntee, and the snack size bag of food, not enough for two meals. I knew then I would be diffrent and also go through to interview my prospective homes to know my babies would always be well taken care of. I would never dream of charging the 2-10 grand for a baby, and agree if I were, it better crap gold nuggets! I do garentee a healthy breed standard, well solcialized puppy. I have also seen others get the crap end, around here, less than 1000 will get you non papered, large, and often sickly pups. I guess you are right, I just look at the time and efoort to be more than the money, for me it isnt about that, it is about the breed, the babies, and finding those incredible families who will love my babies forever. Again, I am sorry, please forgive me aggitation, I got up on the wrong side of the bed. |
Thats ok don't worry about it. :) I will be the first to admit that I have jumped the gun many times so you aren't alone. I can see how it would bother you especially if this is something you have to deal with on a daily basis. At least you know your babies are well taken care of. ;) |
marlee, don't worry 'bout it. we all have our days, and from what you said you do very well by your pups and have nothing to be defensive about. If you know you are doing right by your pups you don't anyone anything. |
Look Marley don't worry it's ok. I applaud your efforts in what you are doing when you breed your pups. I wish more folks went that route. Maybe when I am ready for a companion for Lex I will look you up. :D |
Thanks for the support. I too wish there were more that went out of their way to ensure these little guys be healthy!!!It is so sad to see people breed these guys in such a way that you are almost sure to end up with a sickly puppy. It infuriates me so, that some people are in it for the money, as for me, I just cant get enough of these guys :p . I will post pics soon of the babies, they are getting so big!!! :animal-pa |
Crazy! Keeley is huge (at 8 pounds) compared to these tiny things! And I can't believe they are calling them "teaspoon yorkies". |
It's really sad people will sacrific the health of these poor little pups for money! |
I particularly like the dogs this lady produces. Hers come from generations of tinies. I can also see she cares for her dogs and knows what she is doing. If I had that kind of money I would buy on in a heart beat. I believe in this breeder eyes shut. :animal36 |
