Grooming Question - please help! Hello all - I am a new owner of a Yorkie and he is 4 months old now. I am wanting to trim him up a bit but I have not done this yet so I am a little nervous. The breeder I got him from said she recommends the "Wahl peanut" since it is small and powerful. She was the last to trim him and it is looking like his paws and ears are needing some TLC soon. What type of trimmers are you guys using and will it cut him if I am not careful? Any other suggestions or tips for me? |
I've never used anything, but scissors - I keep mine in long coats and just trim the ears and feet. I guess if you wanted his body clipped short you would have to use them. I know some people mention razor burn from the groomers so it sounds like you can hurt them if you don't know what you're doing. I would start by letting him get use to the sound. |
I have a handheld, battery operated trimmers that I got from TSC. I do their pads, groin area, butts and ears and they work like a charm! |
you are braver then me lol, I am just afraid to do Bailey's nails, I do my Beagle , his are white, but I am so nervous about Bailey's because they are black. I wish i had the nerv to do the trimming of his hair, but I'm a fraidy cat, so off to the groomer he goes next week....good luck and would love to see a pic when you are done. :) |
2 Attachment(s) I couldn't be without the Wahl trimmer...I use it on my girls ears and little booties....then I use a tiny moustach trimmer to keep their faces neat...they have long hair and are outside in the yard alot so I like to trim the eye area... these are the 2 trimmers I use the most |
Love the Wahl too..and I've used a few different ones, some very expensive. Plus, you can't beat the price...Walmart. |
Thanks so much - I just went and purchased the Wahl peanut trimmer this weekend and I did pretty good for the first time but I did knick his little hiney just a bit - poor guy - what a bad mommy I am. He was okay - he did not even whine but I saw I got a little too close. Other than that my husband and I got him cleaned up nicely. Thanks for all the suggestions - this site is great! |
