Panting? Whenever Emmy gets excited and run around, she sounds as if she was breathing heavy out of her mouth. I wanted to know if this is normal or what? It's only when she gets excited or is running around the house with a toy in her mouth? Anyone else's yorkie do the same? -Ashley & Emmy :aimeeyork |

It's just like if you ran around the backyard at full speed, you'd be out of breath and breathing through your mouth too. It's actually a good sign that they're getting some exercise out of playing. I always make sure when I take my girls to the park that they hit the point where they're panting because then you know that they're getting some good exercise and are getting tired. |
Good question! I wondered that myself. Bella gets so excited chasing the cats she'll start panting and I actually have her "take a break" because I'm worried she's overexerting herself. I didn't know if because of her age (15 weeks) I should be cautious of this... |
Its normal. Jewels does this too. |
It's normal as several of my yorkies do that. |
yes mine does that too :) its Normal :) :Hugs: |
NORMAL... Penny does that too. :) |
I am glad to hear it is normal. Ella does that a lot too and I am always a bit concerned. :) |
SOmebody once told me that heavy panting is like laughing for a dog, don't know if that is true or not but I notice whenever Tinkerbell does this, she is very happy.LOL ;) |
Whenever I get out the leashes and harnesses, Brandy immediately starts jumping around and panting. It's her happy dance! |

Susan pants almost the whole time in the car -- even when it's really cold. We figure she's just excited. |

LOL Princess has the same Happy Dance :) She loves her harness, she see's it and knows it's bye, bye, time :D :D :D |
I always thought panting meant that the dog was thirsty. I always bring Baby to drink when she's doing that. It usually means she is thirsty. :) Don't know what she is now since she's licking my toes! LOL :p |
Sounds normal to me. Any animal breathes harder when it runs or is very active - including us!!! Our oxygen requirements increase when we are active!! Carol Jean |
