Help!! Baby Yorkies Fighting ALL the Time!! My new little ones, Romeo and Juliet, are continuously fighting. It looks like Juliet, who is twice the size of Romeo, is really beating him up. She growls at Romeo and attacks his face and then knocks him down and keeps growling and biting and he growls and screams (whimpers). It seem likes she's hurting him, so I keep separating them. They are brother and sister, so maybe they are just playing. I just keep thinking that they shouldn't be growling and biting and making the other one scream like that? Am I too overprotective of him or is this just normal? |
Am sorry you have to go thru this, I had to go thru that with Simba & Nala ( not Yorkies) I think dogs play a little too ruff for us, I guess is ok for them to play like that as long a they are not making each other bleed or they look as if they are really fighting. I had brought another Yorkie home for a few weeks to play with Nemo, so he can have someone his size to play with, All they did was run around each other, after each other bite each other, Nemo will bite the other dog, he will bite Nemo. They will take turns crying and biting each other, They will pull each other's ears and legs ,paws. beleive me it was not nice. I let them Play for a while, but every now and then I would stop them. I ould play refere if I see that one of t hem was beating too much on the other. This might be normal. They might just be playing, just a little ruff... Are they young, because with my other dogs , I notice as they got older, they got a little better with the ruff play. they still play hard sometimes but , not as much as they did when they were younger.. I hope this helps.. |
Thank you Thank you for your opinion princecharlie. It always makes you feel better to hear someone else's thoughts. My gut tells me they are probably playing too since they are littermates (brother and sister from the same litter). They are only 8 weeks old, so that may be why they are so rough. It probably wouldn't freak me out so much if one wasn't twice the size of the other. I just keep thinking she is going to hurt him -- the sounds they make are really awful!! I'm sure it will get better. I guess I'll just be refereeing for a while. Thanks again. |
Sandy and Tia do this play fighting thing as well. You should hear the low gutteral growls that come out of these girls. I separate them when they yelp or get too annoying with their growling ;) Neither of them has ever hurt the other, they really seem to know when it's time to back off. It sounds to me like that's what your two are doing. |
Tara: My male is bigger than my female and when he gets too rough and she cries I intervene with a toy that they can both play with. I do reprimand him when he is rough and she "tells" him too, usually with a "nip" that hurts. I encourage him to carry a chew toy when he plays with her so he can't bite her. All of this seems to be working. Hope it helps. Good luck! |
fighting Spritze them with Bitter Apple..just a light spay on the back/feet..it will discourage them for biting each other. When my adults get too rough with a puppy, I spray it and the adults all back off and let it alone. |
