humping after neutering so, bunjee's been neutered for like 2 months now. and just recently he started to hump every leg he's coming in contact with. he tried to hump mine, and i kept telling him no, so he stopped. but everyone else's leg is free game it seems. is this a dominance thing now? or is it something else. i'm assuming it's not a sexual thing since he's been neutered. any ideas? |
Interesting - just saw Cesar Millan and a vet talk about this on TV. It's not a sex thing. Wolves in a pack all do this all the time to one another - males and females alike .... it is a way they maintain their order and rank - and it's often not sexual at all. Neutered and spayed females will both do this -- even to toys. The vet said - to interrupt this activity and find something else for your dog to do. Discourage it... He said a lot of people think it's "cute" --- but it's not. Instead, it can be embarrassing when you have company and your dog starts humping on their leg or in front of your guests .... often it's not very funny at all! Again - interrupt this behavior everytime you see your dog doing it - "Nip it in the bud." If you see they're even going to start this - go after them - move them - find them something else to do...... put them outside - whatever!!! Teach your dog that this is not acceptable behavior. Yeah, I read that babies hump as a socialization behavior but older puppies use it as a form of dominance. Once a puppy is old enough to be fixed, it's time to really break the habit. |
yeah, whenever i see him doing it to someone else, i tell him to stop immediately and he does. it's just when i'm not there and my mom or husband is trying to figure out... is bunjee trying to mount and hump their leg? or jump up onto their lap? i told them, unless you tell him to come up to your lap, he should be doing neither. it's weird that he has no interest in humping his toys. just legs and some dogs. |
Oscar only does this to my 23 year old son when he comes over and I make him stop as soon as he starts it. Danny thinks it is funny but I don't! He used to do it to his stuffed animals but we just removed those toys he humped and he stopped all together. |
A dominance thing, and females do it also. Stop the behavior as soon as it starts by distraction. |
