Taking your furbabies to mexico? Does anyone know what you need to be able to cross over your furbabies to mexico? :confused: |
When I was married I spent a lot of time in Mexico and took my first Yorkie "Tiki" and I think that we did not need anything but to be safe we made sure that all her shots were up to date and had the documentation to prove it. |
I'm curious about this question also. We have a condo in mexico and are planning a vacation soon to go there. We of course are going to take Logan, but I didn't even think about the fact their might be a problem. We are flying into San Diego and then driving into the Baja. |
I was under the impression that if you took your dog to Mexico, it had to be quarrantined for about two weeks before you could bring them back over the border. Not sure if this is true, or where to even check into it. |

You need a health certificate dated within 72 hours of crossing and a pet vaccination certificate showing rabies, hepatitis, pip, leptospirosis. A pet permit fee is required. They may not even notice the dog upon entry, but what will happen when you bring it back and they think your importing it. Also be aware that many residents of Mexico are very afraid of dogs (even small ones) because of roaming wild dogs carrying rabies and there are a lot of dog diseases. Keep a close eye on your dog, residents kill roaming dogs to protect their communities. |

Don't do it!! I would be afraid someone would steal your furbaby!! i read a story about dogs being sold out of trunks of cars near the border, the story said Mexicans were bringing in to USA sick puppies and dogs and selling them at fleas markets. |
I agree - you shouldn't have much of a problem getting your dog into Mexico. Getting him back is the problem. Our border patrol is much more stringent about what enters the US... And, Mexico really doesn't care what we take there... And with all the puppies being smuggled into the US from Mexico now (especially the small breeds) - I would really check into it and make sure I had what I'd need to get him back home. Good luck! |

I was checking to because I just came from Mexico but I usually take my MaeMae with me everywhere but she is 'with child' so she was safer at home with the papa! But as long as your paperwork is in order... you are good to go. US is a rabies country so you can take your furbaby to any rabies country without quarantine... the ones that are rabies free will have problems. Oh yes... and Hawaii is rabies free so NoNo there..... |

(wonder when he was going to tell me.) So I reckon I should renig on my offer. Archie is turning out to be just as backward as Giz. I already keep 4 on my lap at the same time 2 more would not make a big difference. If I were going to be off those days I certainly would do it. |
