Our Summer Vacation: What to do with our Yorkie for one week We have a week-long vacation whereby we 1) cannot take CoCo (who will be about 10 months old) with us, 2) we don't have neighbors that can help, and 3) our relatives cannot help either. We live in No. Calif. (East Bay) and are looking for a VERY NICE kennel or place to leave her there while we are away. Though you may not live in our area, what have any of you done in these situations? Thank you! |
I live in So CA. Where are you going on vacation? Suz |
I live in the South Bay! Need help? |
I have boarded mine in a Kennel. We have a great Kennel in our area that is run by a lovely women that I also does obedience training. I have taken classes from her and will be enrolling Chance in May for puppy training. So I felt very comfortalble taking my Remmy there since we developed a relationship when taking Remmy to training classes. We don't have family in the area so when we go out of town I have taken Remmy there. I have often thought about a pet sitter but not sure that I want a complete stranger to have access to my house. |
Pet Care www.countrycrittersitters.com Although the link is in Nova Scotia, I was amazed when I started to look for a Plan B for my Buddy what there is out there. My mother is taking him, but I was worried if something happened to her or her husband (in their 70's) they would need someplace to take Buddy. I have found several in my area that keep small dogs right in their own homes they I have just started to investigate for my trip. I used to look forward to my 2 weeks South every year and this year I'm having a hard time thinking about leaving Buddy. My Mother loves him and he loves her so I know he'll be in good hands but it will be sad to leave him. If he ends up at the link above - he may never want to come home! |
Check with your local groomers some have kennels for boarding. That is what we have to do with ours. |
PETsHOTEL I don't know if any of these are near you, but I've heard they are great. There aren't any around us so I haven't tried them. From what I understand it's $20 a day or you can up grade to a suite for more $$. Goodluck finding someone. I'm sure you'll find a good place for your babies! http://www.petsmart.com/PETsHOTEL/locations.shtml |

New York has many pet hotels. A petsmart opened up in my area in Secaucus, New Jersey which is one train stop away from New York City by subway. I take Dezi to Doggie Daycamp and to puppy school at this facility. I am impressed with the place (very clean) and the people are really nice. You may want to consider bringing him with you and dropping her off at the pethotel in Secaucus. They require proof of vaccination. |
When I had one (just Bell) a good friend watched her, but now I have three I could never ask her, so off to the vet they go! Its going to cost me a fortune. But what choice do I have. |
be careful if your dog(s) are not spayed/neutered, be careful if you choose a kennel and research it well, references and all. a lady that works with my mom has a small breed dog had him kenneled for 4days. she came back and he would not do anything, just lay around, the lady who ran the kennel said " oh he has been fine all day and has been eating, so i don't know why he is like that". she ended up taking him to the vet and was told that he had been bred to exhaustion!!! the lady who owned the kennel had females several of which happened to be in heat and took him home and bred him the whole time she was gone...... |
