does their growth slow after a certain point? just weighed my little boy today at the vet's. 6.8 lbs!!! so he's been gaining about .2 pounds a week since i got him at 8 weeks. he's now 6 months old. i'm just curious to know if growth slows at a certain point? how has your experience been? |
Chloe stopped growing alot around 6-8 months. It has been my experince that dog will "fill in" alittle more when they are about 1-1 1/2 years old as they arent as active so they tend to take on their more permanent adult weight. At least this has been the case with my Boxer and CHihuahua. My yorkie seemed to just stop growing at 8 months though and she is now 14 months old. After 6 months she didnt get any wider, just longer. So your baby is probobly close to full grown. |
Gucci has being the same weigh aprx since she was 8 months. But I supposed everypup is different. |
thanks for the feedback folks. i'm gonna be curious to see if any of the adult weight estimates rings true for my little bunjee. if i triple his 8 week weight, he should be 8.4 lbs if i double his 12 week weight, he should be 6.8 lbs if i use the weight of his parents, he should be between 7 to 8 lbs. i guess we'll see... :D |
Well, possibly Ginger's the amazing growing yorkie, but... last summer we were in a training class with a little tiny daschund who was ever so slightly bigger than Ginger (Ginger may have been taller, but the dacshund was definately larger). Ginger was about 11 mos. old now at that time. Recently, we met up with that same daschund, and her people couldn't believe my dog was the same dog! Between all of the black hair that is now completely gone, and the growth she's experienced since (she's now at 12 lb very solid, but not fat) Ginger looked like a giant next to this dog! I was also amazed by how much she continued to grow since then! The formulas are great as a guideline, but I don't think you know until they really STOP growing! |
All of the Yorkies I have had stopped at about 6 months. I do remember that Raisin was a perfect compact square at 6 months and then at about 11 months added that little extra length, seemingly over night. |
