Camping Hiya We're thinking of going camping with maisy in a tent. Just wondered if any of you have been camping before with your little ones and if so how did you get on? We go camping all the time but this will be the first time with maisy!!!!! :D |
I go camping all the time with mine. She also horseback rides and tubes and boats and fishes. We have loads of fun. |
I love camping, you will have so much fun!! I havent been camping with Chloe yet, but I have been before with my other furbabies. I really want to take Chloe so bad!! Just make sure you have a secure tent that they cant open. For instance my Min Pin that I used to have could use his nose to nudge the zipper in the corner of the tent door where 2 zippers meet and he could open it enough to get out. Gave us quite a scare in the middle of the night! We just had to but a little lock thru the 2 zippers so he couldnt pull them apart. Also make sure you bring flea and insect repellant and make sure your yorkie is caught up on all shots. Youre going to have so much fun! |
Also-You might want to get a doggie lifejacket if you are going to go on a lake or river. :) |
We have been camping with ours numerous times. the only thing I would be careful about is making sure you have the tent ALL the way zipped up..we thought we did but there was a little tiny hole at the bottem and next thing ya know ours were outside of the tent..now nothing happened but something could of. But other than that..they had a blast..swimming and all with us..beleive it or not..my yorkies love to go swimming..we have a spring fed creek that runs through our property and in some places it's really deep...so the kids are always swimming in it..and the yorkies will jump off the bank and dive right in lol.. |
I had taken Maxie camping, he did good. Although I wish I had taken a playpen or something to put him in while I was cooking... I had him tied around the table leg but he was a little cold and dirty..... plus there were some other big dogs around. |

Just make sure where you are camping that they allow pets in tents. I work in a campground and we don't anymore due to a few neglectful owners. Fran |
thank you all for your replies, :) i was i little worried about her escaping but what you all have said has put my mind at ease! Camping here we come :D Jetess :animal-pa |
I've taken him on a canal boat and we're going camping on the Easter weekend. :) should be loads of fun! Cant wait - just hope he doesnt get too cold! |
We are also avid campers we love it!! Our first trip of the year will be on the 15th April and we can't wait. There is 14 of my family going and 2 dogs :animal36 :animal36 We haven't taken Smudger yet but last year we went camping every weekend and my dad came with us a few times towards the end of the season in our trailer tent and he brought his dog with him which is a cocker spaniel and it was fine. I do worry about this year with Smudger though as he is very clingy and doesn't like being on his own so I dread to imagine what racket he's going to make if we go to the market or the pub lol :D :p |

Which campsite are you going to?? |
WE go camping quite a bit..we put a flickering red ball that hooks to Zoes harness on her so at night we can see where she is at all times...we bought ours at hardware store but I have also seen them at petco. Have a great time....I know Zoe loves to go camping. This year we will be bringing Lizzy (our new addition) She is pretty naughty so we might be bringing a playpen too. Great idea! |
Camping We live in a motorhome and go from campground to campground all year long. We have a playpen "XPen" that we put up in our enclosed gazabo to keep Penny safe and happy when we are outside enjoying the sunshine and outdoors, We sit in there with her. We also tie a 10 foot leash to the side of the motorhome so she can run around and play with her toys, she seems to be a happy Camper!!!.. Then of course we go walking 4 times a day for potty breaks.... Im sure you will have a great time :) |
We also love camping, but we take the big dogs and leave the little ones at home because ----- Her long hair caught every twig, burr, sticker, pine needle, etc. in the forest. She always sleeps with us, but after the first day she was so dirty we really didn't want her to (but of course she did). Bears have been known to eat them while they were tied up. Fleas, ticks, etc. She could not stay up with us while hiking and, of course, we couldn't leave her alone at the campsite. She couldn't cross the river by herself and we really needed our hands free. There's a lot of people you know nothing about around you. I really could go on and on, we took them once and never again; however, we really enjoy taking the Alaskan Malamute with us (she keeps all the raccoons and bears away). Anyway, this was my experience ...... |
