Maybe looking for Winston's Sister....HELP! Okay... I have something to confess. Reading about you all with puppies and more than one furbabies.... I am getting a major puppy fever. I've been working on my husband about adding a little girl to our family for about 2-3 months now. A bit of history, it took me 10 years to talk him into getting Winston and he is crazy about the boy now as much as I am. He is finally mentioning the new baby girl daily. So I figure it's time to get serious. For those of you that started out with one furbaby then got another one. What are the pros and cons? Is it that much harder? We take Winston everywhere with us and our world really evolves around Winston. Do you think Winston, who doesn't think that he is a dog, would be okay with another little on around? Please help. Go for it !!!!!! We got Harley first and felt bad cause we work alot, and then we got our girl Haley and they love each other, you can't ever separate them, i remember when we got Harley fixed he was at the vets all day and Haley went nuts waiting for her buddy to come home, it's such a joy to have two of them, they both do everything together, eat, sleep, play and go swimming in the summer time,,, |
I say go for it! Having 2 is so much easier than having one IMO! Winston will probably be jealous at first but he will get used to her in time! I think that you should definetly get another one, Winston would love you for it ;) |
I AGREE... Gizmo was 1st then Winnie's girl Maddy and even though she bully's her brother they love each other to death...... it's a bit hard sometimes to take them places but fun at the same time when you do, plus it works Gizmo is a daddy's boy & Maddy a mamma's girl so it works ... |
Oh thank you for your message. Do you crate them? Winston is in his space, a crate big enough for a 90 lbs dog, during the day when we are at work. He really likes his space. We leave the t.v. on for him. Should I keep them together or separate? |
I personally vote for together, more bonding time and they don't feel as alone, we leave Disney or Discovery Channel on too... |
How old is Winston ? I also am wanting a baby girl yorkie. I currently have a 7 yr. old spoiled rotten boy. My husband tells me that kobe would not accept another one. And it would be mean of me to bring another yorkie into the house. I also feel that he would like a playmate while I am at work. I would like to hear others opinions on this. |

Winston is 14 months old. He really doesn't know what to do with any other dogs. He really is a big time Mommy's boy and hurts his Daddy's feelings sometime. The moment he gets scared, sleepy, etc. he needs me to hold him. He is pretty spoiled. We got him when he was 5 months old. The breeder originally breeded him to be a show dog but changed her mind. He had a sister in the liter so they were together until then. They really did enjoy playing together. I sure hope that Winston will be okay with his new sister. He is really playful and would not leave us alone unless we play with him. :animal36 Okay, I think I am going to go for it. Thank you guys. Now I need to research and find a little girl. |
I'm sure he will do great. I would not leave them together alone until they got to know each other but I'm sure Winston would love the company. btw... My hubby is from Columbia SC. Go GameCocks! |
Go for it!!!! More yorkie to love!!!!! :2hearts2: I'm sure they will become best friends! :) :) :) |
Having two is great! IMO it's better to introduce a new yorkie to the home when your original dog is reletively young. I think Winston is a good age. The pros are- They never get lonely because they have each other, you get twice the puppy kisses, they have each other to play with so when you are busy you don't have to worry as much. Cons- It is harder to take them both with you places (i take turns with my girls if we're going shopping) but for walks, traveling and stuff like that, they always come together. And it's twice the money for food, vet, toys, flea treatments, hair cuts stuff like that. But to me it's worth it and i love having two. |
I beleive it is definitely better to have more than one, regardless of breed... My Tootie was the 4th added to an already mixed up brood(chi mix, boston terr, Y lab)... They all love one another and it is so much easier to leave them during the day because they have each other, and Animal Planet, for company.... I dont like them to be lonely |
I think you should go for it...Having two gives them playmates when you are not home or when you are busy. |
We to have a Winston, and he will be getting a companion in about 7-8 weeks a little baby girl, having two has got to be twice the fun imo. Go for it  |
My Boys.......... Quote:
IT was "horrible" for the first three or four weeks after we brought baby Dinkey home at 12 weeks old. Dudley hated him, he would not eat, play, snuggle, come to us, or do any of his "normal" things. He stayed in his bed for the most part and anytime little Dinkey came close to him, he would attack him. Like he was going to eat him alive......growled, nipped, snapped!!!! I had to hand feed Dudley chicken and rice behind closed doors away from Dinkey before he would eat.....I WAS WORRIED SICK....and I just kept thinking "what have I done to poor Dudley?" He was sooo upset with us bringing home a new brother for him........now mind you, Dinkey is a darling little fuzz ball that only wanted to love you and play, play, play and run and jump and play some more..........with Dudley. Dudley finally accepted the fact the Dinkey was staying and I would say he tolerates him now. On a happy note, they do play some........but it's mostly Dinkey playing. He's such a happy little fella! What I wish........ is that I had gotten Dudley a brother when he was about a year old or younger. I think they would have bonded much better IMO! I really want to get a little girl (both boys were neutered at 6 months) while Dinkey is still young. I think they would have a great time playing and bonding. PLUS..........I also have "puppy fever!!!!!" I think even adopting an older female, like 2 or 3 yrs old would be GREAT! Our home is full of Yorkie LOVE! :) |
Go for it. I have two and love it. My breeder was happy when I got them both also. She said she thinks yorkies do better in pairs. I love having both a male and a female too. You get the best of both that way |
i say go for it to i say go for it to , my china and tia get along great and they are both not yorkies but thye are not so lonely with another around |
Okay, you guys are great!!! I love this forum!!! You guys are the best!!! We are going to look for a little girl. Wish us luck! Now I am very excited! Thanks for all your good words. :) Nid |
I also have a Winston (Winnie for short)!! He's a bichon/poodle mix about 20 lbs and is 3 years old. I stumbled upon this board while researching shorkies=shih tzi + yorkie mix, and got hooked!! So truth be told I don't even have a yorkie :omg: I feel like I'm coming out of the closet finally :p The advice on this board I find crosses over to all dogs and the people are just so nice and kind. I too have decided to finally add to our brood of 3 kids (15,11 and 10) and 1 dog. I decided on getting a full blooded shih tzu instead of the shorkie. Little Georgia Belle will be coming next weekend. She is a black shih tzu that weighs 1.2 lbs at the moment!! I'm very happy and excited and my mommy instincts are in overdrive. I too know what you're going through because my mind is whirling about introducing her to Winnie and how they will get along, etc. I saw on The Dog Whisperer that when you first bring your furbaby home you should hold it's behind up to the other dogs to let them get a good sniff. I thought that was great advice. It's a dogs way of getting to know another dog! Keep posting people because I'm eating up all of your advice like ice-cream!! Thanks for reading such a long post Betsey K. aka Winnie's Mom.....New Hampshire :animal36 |
Hi Winstons mum Just wanted to tell you about our experience .It took me 13 years of persuading to get Alfie, and then my husband was hooked. We waited until Alfie was almost 18 months and then got Lottie. Alfie and Lottie have got on great from the beginning he just loves her, although she is now the BOSS! She went in to get spayed recently and Alfie was lost all day without her, he is very protective of her and although its twice the expense you will love every minute of it. My mum also has a 13 year old yorkie who would not even look at Alfie when he first came on the scene but now she absolutely adores both of them she is like an old mother hen,she barks and she fusses over them and they just love her to bits. So good luck with your search! Julie |
I think we will be taking Winston on the puppy hunt. It's only fair to see how he would react to the puppy, right? Do you think it's a good idea or no? |
