Shoud I let the Breeder know Cali's got MVD I am hoping some Breeders will respond to this. As you know Cali was diagnosesd with mild MVD. I do not have a genetic guarantee or anything and I am not looking to the Breeder for any financial reimbursement, but I don't think she should breed Cali's parents anymore due to the MVD. I don't know if she wil stop because of it but what do you think I should do? Thanks |
enlighten me,what is MVD? |
:) I would. When I got my first yorkie I had no garenttee either and we found she had a hernia. I called the breeder and let her know I wasn't unhappy or looking for any reimbursment just wanted to let her know. I don't know if she stoped breeding those dogs but I feel I did my best at informing her so she could make a informative decision on her breeding practices. |
I don't know what MVD is either  |
It's Microvascular disease. It's a liver shunt on the inside of the liver and cannot be operated on. It is felt to be genetic. |
All you can do is tell her about the MVD. Then it's up to her to decide what course to take. If it were me, I know I'd want to know. Suz |
i would tell her and i am sorry to hear that about ur little one.... how did you find out she had that or know to have her tested? and is she ok? |
I think you should definitely tell her and hopefully she will do the right thing by not breeding Cali's parents any more. |
I would definatly let the breeder know. She/he may not know this and may be a responsible breeder and want to know so they can stop breeding her parents. On the other hand they could not care but you never know, sometimes people can suprise you in good ways. Crystal |
Regardless of whether you have a health guarantee or not you should let the breeder know. If he/she is responsible she would want to find out since it is genetic. |
oh yes...tell the breeder |
I made an appointment today to have my little Bailey neutered , and they recommend that he have blood work and some other test done to make sure his liver is healty, before doing the surgery, to avoid complications due to anesthetic. I am guessing that is how ppl find out if their little ones have it. |

No real definitive symptoms. one weird episode of acting like she was on drugs and a couple of hypoglycemic episodes and vomiting. They did a Bile Acid which came back high but not real bad 0/15 is normal range hers was 0/90 first time and 0/32.5 second time. Liver ultrasound looked ok but biopsy showed mild MVD internal shunt. Surgeon said it was like one tiny vessel inside of the liver was bad. |
Awww Patti, I'm sorry Cali was diagnosed with MVD! Many dogs that have that live normal lives with medicine and proper diet though... I would definitely tell the breeder, and hopefully she will do the right thing and stop breeding her parents... |
