Really Weird Question This is a really weird question, but I hope someone can offer some help! I have pretty long hair and often times when I run my fiongers through it sometimes it just falls out onto the carpet. I try to vaccuum as much as I can but no matter what they is always pieces of my hair SOMEWHERE! Oliver, my 5 month old pup, has been having some hair in his stools. Usually it is not much- not more than one piece, but the other night he had quite the hairdoll doing on (it was either hair or strands pulled off the bully stick I just got him) I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else and how harmful it is to my baby. I try really hard to make sure the floors are all clean, but somehow he ingests some (probably from chewing his bully stick on the floor)    |
I have VERY long hair & I always find bits of hair in my little ones poops, they don't go out of their way to eat it, but it happens when they chew on their toys and such. I'm not aware of any harm it causes, I just keep the hair build up clumps off the carpet because sometimes they will eat those. |
Wow, I was thinking of making almost the same thread... I have long hair too, last I measured it was about 38.5 inches. My puppy always seems to find and eat them! Earlier today he was coughing, and I pulled a long one out of his mouth (and maybe out of his throat, too!). The other day he had a little poop problem... the hair was still half inside him and he was dragging poop around by it! It was bad, he was upset, and not happy when I helped him out with that. It can't be too good for them, and I try not to lose hair in the first place... but even one hair on the floor seems to end up in his mouth. :thumbdown |
First of all, GO Aggies! :D I named my furby after Davis: Aggie. I don't think I'd worry too much about the him "eating" your hair. I noticed my hair in Aggie's poop a few times as well. Unless...it's a WAD of hair? |
In my case the hairs are so long, I wonder how much damage they could do inside of him. He could probably stretch one from his mouth all the way to the other end.. that can't be good for him. |
that's a really good question! I think that this is an excellent question I have been thinking about the same thing myself. Ever since we got Poppy I am forever hoovering the house and picking up hair for the same reason. I am totally paranoid about hairballs because I remember in school that the teachers were always giving out to us for chewing on our hair and telling us that we will get hairballs in our tummies!!!! |
This is the story of my life. My hair is just above the small of my back and I shed like I was an animal. I have had to help him out a few times. And as much as I sweep it is almost impossible to keep up with it. |

same thing happens with lexi, couldnt figure it out, but now i know how it happens... i have long hair too and have to help lexi out once in a while. she hates when that happens.. |
THanks everyone! Yeah! Thank you every for letting me know I'm not alone! Sometimes, yes, he trails his little tootie around with him while the hair acts like a little rope keeping it stuck- But mostly it's not too bad! Thanks everyone! P.S YES jkat, GO AGGIES! I love Davis, it's so beautiful!!! |
OMG,, when gus was a pup, he had some poo hanging one to a strand of hair, when I went to go pull it out it seemed like I was pulling out a magic rope. It just didn't end. LOL My husband couldn't believe I pulled out a hair that long form Gus's rear, so he measured it,,,, 36". Yes I have very long hair. And yes it has happened more the once. That's a very good question and I think I will ask the vet next visit. It doesn't seem to bother Gus. Since the kids were babies I've formed an habit of keeping the carpets vacuumed and the floors swept. So hopefully he'll never ingest too much at any given time. |
I also have long hair and mine seem to find it and then it comes out when the pooooh. Anyways I don't think a piece here and there will hurt them. |
Same problem here. It is ironic that I own a dog that doesn't shed and yet I am the one that sheds like there's no tomorrow. A couple of times I have had to pull hairs out of Nikko's mouth because I'll see him scraping the inside of his mouth with his tongue and its usually because he has a strand of hair in his mouth. Poor baby!! |
Hi guys, if you read back through this whole thread it really does prove to be hilarious reading......honestly we really really love our babies to have such open graphic mails with one another!!!! P.S 36".....good lord!!!! |

P.S... try having thigh length hair sometime! The fact that a strand that long has fallen out at all is just as sad as your dog having eaten it! |
